When I started driving in 1987, a good friend of the family told me that if I go trucking I will never get out. He was right. Prayers for Greg and his family. I’m going to try and find a creeper that has larger tires, so I don’t have to crawl in the piss. Before automatic slacks adjusters, we had to adjust our brakes before going down steep grades. I remember the first time I got under the trailer and smelled fresh piss.

Seeing those railroad bridges in Chicago reminded me of the ONE time I bridged a trailer. I stopped at a Union76 truckstop on Manheim Rd. to get fuel and I asked the guy if it was ok to take Manheim instead of getting back up on the Kennedy Expressway, and he said yes, but "don't stop anywhere because the blackies will get you" ! So off I went, in my old '65 B67 Mack with 22" rubber and there are railroad bridges every few feet it seemed with no height signs, and they looked low because the road dipped down under each one. Oh I was empty by the way. So I stopped just before getting under the first one and got up on the deckplate and looked. There wasn't more than 2" clearance ! So I slowed down at each one, and there was a shitload of them. Until i heard a ruffling sound under one and saw yellow fiberglass floating in the air behind me. FUCK !!!! Just caught the right front corner and kinda accordianed it back a foot or so. That aluminum alloy in that roof was stiff shit !! Couldn't flatten it back out, so I just jumped on it and pushed it down below the section around it, go a couple rolls of duct tape and went across diagonally 90° to each other and called it good. It never leaked !! So that's my Chicago story, hope you enjoyed it. I was out there from Massachusetts delivering a load of plastic flower pots, and I tripleased a load of empty computer cabinets right back into Mass.. That was in 1978. I've been over most of this country with a Rand Mcnally Road Atlas, a Rated Bridge & Low Underpass book, and a CB radio !! How trucking has changed !!!!!!!

I've noticed that you dont dump the trailer air suspension normally to get loaded and unloaded. I may be wrong on this but to me it seems like that put unnecessary stress on the air bags. If you don't have a dump valve for the trailer then I'd suggest getting one installed
@OTRBandit2 ай бұрын
I don’t have a dumb valve on my trailer. If I was to dump all of the air from my bags, I think that dock plate would put too much stress on the trailer floor. I do have valve that I can twist of on my air thank so I might try that one day to see how it goes.
@hermanwall8502 ай бұрын
That could be that it adds stress to the floor. I always dump my air and if the dock height is high then I slide tandems all the way back and if dock height is low then I leave tandems further forward but regardless the air always gets dumped. Less movement up and down helping to save my door seals from ripping against their docks as well. Hey maybe I'm doing it all wrong
