Part of the reason two years passed between seasons 1 and 2 was the writers and actors strikes last year. And the pickup for a second season wasn’t made/announced til season 1 aired. There likely won’t be another extended strike, and HBO is probably deciding earlier (during postproduction) about whether it will get another season.
