It would be awesome to see another Power Wagon! I was so excited to see you had one and have missed it. The power wagon is just such a cool and unique truck and one of the best looking trucks on the road in my opinion. OR you could step into a different segment and add a TRX to the fleet. You have the standard Wrangler, the 392, so having something to get you going it a little faster and make some different off road content would be awesome.

I would say the Power Wagon as well I am sure it was fine with that shell on it but that overhead camper seems to be a bit much so, yes more power wagon. Or the jeep gladiator would be my second pick.

Yup, its how and when we found you Brad. We love our 2020 Gladiator Rubicon. We use it for towing and truck stuff. Due to Warranty we are still under we haven't modified much. But, we still love it and plan on some great camping adventures with our UEV-90 trailer camper. So, in closing ; BUY ANOTHER GLADIATOR! :)

Note on the bronco: I think your experience is due to the 4 door soft top model. I got a 2 door manual hardtop and absolutely love it. The footprint is great and the handling is phenomenal. I think the bronco was designed to be a 2 door manual all along.

I got a 2 door hard top and my wind noise was just as bad as a soft top and wayy louder than a jeep. It was a dealbreaker. Ford’d build quality is lacking.

@gogators043 interesting. I sold my 2021 JLU willys hardtop before I got the bronco and I'd say wind noise is about the same. Way less tire noise however

I had a jk for a long time, been out of it for a couple years, and just started to shop again. I really thought the Bronco was going to be the better clean sheet Wrangler, but I have heard the same opinion as Brad's from a few people now. On top of that, the factory options for non-sasquach builds seem lacking, and online owners are having issues...man, back to shopping for JLs for me! I love the look of the 2 door, though, so here's hoping for some midcycle updates.

I came here for the gladiator and I’ve stayed for the great content…and frankly the great people! After watching a few episodes, now my 3 year old daughter points out Jeeps everywhere we go One aspect I really appreciate about this channel is all the different vehicle content and the honest opinions. I’m planning to switch to a Jeep in a year or two but it’s got to be reliable for my situation. Your experience has both given me confidence to make the switch and insight into what to chose. (Probably won’t go diesel with a giant trailer over a 9k ft pass anytime soon) One of my all time favorites is actually the suspension shootout you did in Moab. I realize there was likely a huge amount of work to pull that off by you and partners but hopefully we can see one or two more episodes like that in the coming years!

You’ve had so many cool vehicles, love hearing the retrospective on the ones you’ve parted with. I’ve got a 2022 Rubicon 4xe lifted on 35s and I think your comments when you sold it were bang on - it’s perfect for someone with a 25 mile commute who wants to do cool stuff on the weekend but isn’t over landing hundreds of miles at a time. Your review clinched it for me and I’ve loved every minute so far. It can do everything a Jeep should and day to day driving I can go 3 weeks on a tank of gas… 2 weeks if I wheel on the weekend 😂

The funny part of this Video is that I have had 3 of these vehicles. I also had a firecracker red Rubicon Gladiator and sold it for my Bronco and after a few months with Bronco I regretted it for the same reasons. We recently picked up a 4xE Wrangler and I love it. My wife who’s never been a truck person absolutely loves the 4xe and she does most of trips all in electric plus a combined 32mpg. Great video.

Good info Brad. I have to agree with your opinion on the Bronco, although I think they improved the soft top for 2022. After waiting for almost two years and changing my order from a 2 dr to a 4 dr, some of the excitement had worn off when I got it last November. Although I like it, I will be getting something else in about a year. However, we will keep our 2 dr 2022 Wrangler. Thanks again., and happy trails. 😎

I had the ram tradesman with power wagon package. I live in Southern Utah. It was an amazing truck. It was around $55,000 or just below that instead of $65- 70k for an actual power wagon. It had a front bench seat so you could actually take six with you. It was not leather. Love that truck. Wish I didn't sell it, But you are right, it is just big. It is heavy too. I have a couple Jeeps and a gladiator and they got around in more places with the four-wheel drive. Just because they are lighter and narrower. But for safety and comfort. That power wagon was awesome. Keep up the good content.

Good to finally hear why you ditched the PowerWagon, I was excited to see someone else defy the masses and use a PowerWagon with slide in :). I have 20k HARD miles on my 2018 with a heavier camper (Northstar 650SC) , and I absolutely LOVE IT!, will never go another route for camping/overland rig. However, I did not lift at all, just added Bags, Bigwig sway, and 37X13.5 Geolander X-AT (E rated) and run 65 PSI on the road, and 35 on the trail. Rides better than any overloaded SUV I've had. I have a couple vids on my channel if you want to check it out.

I started watching TrailRecon with a story about your experience with some tires on a red Jeep. It was your daily driver to a job. T gave a really practical review in several videos. We have a Hawk model 4wheel popup camper on our Ram 2500 Cummins powered pickup. I installed Bilstein 5100 shocks on the back, with Eibach shocks on the front. Since that truck is really my wife's. I was forbidden to lift the truck. But that shock combo improved the truck quite a bit until the camper was installed. I will consult with Bilstein before changing shocks. My wife prefers cooking outdoors too. But really likes the inside stove when the wind howls real strong. We have a travel trailer, but the camper fits in every campground. And at only 8ft in height. We are allowed to travel in high winds, everywhere we go.

Great review and reflection on all the off road vehicles for us. Its such a trial and error process. I am on my 3rd one and I can see, for me. I am a car guy too. We have been “car poor” at times because I am a car guy. I definitely agree with your Mustang Mach E comment. The Bronco seems good on the surface; however, I think Ford cheaped out a little and they are WAY overpriced considering all of the crazy dealer markups.

You found out the "hard way" what others had told me when I was looking for a Ram 4x4 for a camper. So I stopped looking at Power Wagons and concentrated on 2500HDs. I’ve got a 04 WJ that I have lifted 2” on skinny 32s. It is regeared and has front and rear lockers. I need bumpers, sliders, and a winch. It has a little over 250,000 miles on it and keeps purring. The simplicity of it and it’s lightweight feel is so nice. I’ve driven it all over the West hunting and it just keeps going. It goes pretty much anywhere as long as it doesn’t get hung up on something. I know I’ll have to get rid of it and upgrade someday, but I don’t know if a JK or JL can get into the same places I get with that little WJ. I do think I will end up upgrading to a JL 4 Door Rubicon (V6 w/ 6 speed) in the semi near future, but it’ll sure be hard to watch my WJ go down the road. Keep up the great content!

Love your channel, but bummed you got rid of the Bronco so quickly. In retrospect, I think you might have enjoyed it more if you hadn't switched your order to a soft top and waited for the hard top, but I get that you wanted to take delivery faster to get new Bronco content out. It took two years of waiting for my Badlands Sasquatch with hard top to be delivered, but it was well worth the wait for me. I also understand that you had issues with finding a winch bumper that wouldn't interfere with the ACC sensor and wouldn't require relocating it. Thankfully, that option is now available on the aftermarket. As you found with your Gladiator purchase, with new models, it takes time for aftermarket support to catch up. Happy Memorial Day weekend, and thank you for your service!

It’s so awesome to watch your analysis and how level minded you are about the decisions you made. I just listened to an interesting book called “mistakes were made, but not by me”. While I disagree with some of the writers political comments, there were some very good lessons. Especially how once people make a decision that on balance it was close, they spend the rest of their time finding evidence to support their decision and not wanting to accept evidence that may support that they were wrong. You made decisions you felt were right and you regretted and never worried much about supporting your ego. I wish I never sold my 1991 2door manual black XJ! Couldn’t have kept it at the time but such great memories from that rig. Awesome channel. Thanks for putting this out.

I'm currently involved in a lemon law suit over my 2022 Diesel JTR. Full engine replacement at 17k miles and the shop that replaced the engine fried the starter and power steering pump, now it needs a third power steering pump before 20,000 miles. Great content, love the back stories on each of your vehicles. I had the pleasure of being one of your many fans who got to meet you at Overland Expo. It is refreshing to hear your opinion on these vehicles. It's not about bashing any particular brand it is about a car guy giving his honest opinion. Last couple years I was in the market for an off road/over land vehicle either Bronco or Jeep and when you got your bronco I was hoping to see and hear more about it but, I soon realized it was no longer in your fleet of vehicles so I assumed you did not much care for it. Then I stared reading more about the Bronco and soon noticed more KZbinr's were ditching theirs as well. So I ended up getting a Jeep Rubicon XR in April and absolutely love it. I am glad I chose the Jeep platform over the Bronco. In a round about way you helped me with my decision without saying a word. I know what you mean about the Power Wagon. I have a 2019 1500 Limited with 106k miles. Zero trouble. The air ride levels it out when towing, which makes it a great towing vehicle.

That was a bitter sweet video... I had a 1500 Eco Diesel that I wish I had not sold. It was such a great vehicle.

We’ve had a lot of the same or similar vehicles. I really enjoyed my XJ as well. I have a completely different take on the bronco though. I got it as a filler vehicle thinking I wouldn’t keep it long. I didn’t think I’d like it. I’ve been a Mopar guy through and through. I actually love the Bronco and I think Ford did a great job. That being said, I’ve never installed my soft top. Mine came with a hard and soft top both. I will agree that the plastics aren’t the best. All in all, I love driving it and it off roads amazing as well. We have a 4 door badlands with Sasquatch. We got a hard and soft top and have only run it with the hard top and topless.

Ahhh man…..the power wagon was my favorite of your vehicles. I know the capacity is an issue so I am taking the backpacking approach to it. Ounces equals pounds, pounds equals pain. Still want a covered option so the ARE MX HD shell with a decked drawer system for wife and 3 y/o and clamshell up top for me and 5 y/o. Those total about 550lbs. With added capacity from carli lift, still have plenty of weight left for essentials.

As an owner of a modified Wangler Rubicon 4xe, who has wheeled it, I really like it. It has a ton of articulation thanks to a small lift and falcon shocks. I rarely put fuel in it, and only when I am going on a longer trip. That said, the new Tacoma looks amazing. I would be very interested in a 4runner that was a PHEV. Without the PHEV I am not 100% sure. The Gladiator in a 4xe would be awesome but the cost of a Wrangler Rubicon 4xe X is around $72k without all taxes and fees. That is way more then I bought mine for. I just can't afford the brand anymore. So I will probably be looking outside the brand if I want for something else.

I love the bronco, but the hard top situation is ridiculous. I miss my 4xe also.

Was good meeting you and Regina at the overland expo in Flag! I'm sure you were randomly spoken to by fans all day, but military to military, I actually felt the need. Glad to hear you honestly miss your PW as I'm kind of going through the same emotions currently. I've got a 12 2500 6.7 6 speed Ram on a 3" lift with 40's right now. Lockers, the whole nine. Just rebuilt the engine, too! I'm torn because I'm wanting to go smaller, wanting to build our 08 LC200... wanting the new taco. Most of all, I just got orders to NY so deleted diesel + NY = no bueno. But... I know I'd regret selling it. In saying that, it DOES have a for sale sticker on it, lol. Big, beefy trucks are ALWAYS enjoyable... but so are the smaller ones! It seems that the right vehicle just doesn't exist for some people. Apparently you, Regina, my wife, and I, are all cut from the same cloth in that aspect!

The diesel overheated not because of cooling constraints but because the shift pattern does not keep the engine in the peak torque range. Diesel is just a heat pump, the more fuel you pour in, the hotter it gets, so running at lower RPM out of peak torque, it will burn it but cause the exhaust gas temps to rise, the ECU will then trigger the defuel once you hit those EGT's ranges to prevent failure. Turbo Diesel Register has good articles about towing and running loaded with diesels about shift points, bottom line is rev the diesel higher in manual shift mode at lighter throttle for the same speed. A lot new diesel owners don't know this. Applies to any diesel. I have the 2021 and run the passes in 1-2 lower gears manually and never have issues and get better fuel economy. Next step is replacing the air filter and intercooler pipes to increase airflow efficiency, remember its really just a pump air and fuel in, expel it out and volumetric efficiency at RPM.

I can attest through my own experience of having to tow a very heavy load, plus all my own gear in the truck, back home across four states in the summer heat, that what you described is 100% true. I drive a '21 eco diesel gladiator.

If you’re looking at the 4Runner, I’d throw the Lexus GX in there as well. Although if you get one of the first ones, you’re going to run into the same problem you had with your gladiator. I’m pretty excited about the future Gladiator 4Xe. The same goes for the diesel Gladiator. I currently drive a GX460, but I’m always looking at the diesel Gladiators, haha. But the 4Xe sounds quite promising as well.

Picked up a 98 XJ with a 2" lift $1900 and haven't looked back. It's perfect for the off roading we do and it's not meant to "look good" when stopped next to the Mom Jeeps.
