Was sent to Point Loma when I worked for the Navy. Got the chance to go out to Anza Borrego. Had a close encounter with two Rams fighting just 10 yards away from me. Walked up the trail and walked under a rock that one Ram was standing on. Put me right between them both. I just held put and watched them. The head crashes echoed up the canyon. Incredible experience my first time out there.

It was cool and I got some good pictures but at the same time I had no idea what to expect or how much danger I could be in with only a backpack for protection and an animal I had no experience with. It’s definitely a special place for s like to go back to. I believe the spot was at a palm oasis near a visitor center. Short hike in.

Chief, another great trip down memory lane! It has been a few decades since my one and only trip into Sandstone Canyon, but believe it or not, I took my 3/4 ton long bed Power Wagon to the end of it. I haven't driven it in years, but it still sports a battle scar from that trip; a few inches of the aluminum beauty ring around the grill is flattened from nudging a sandstone wall. I remember one spot I didn't see in your video where it seemed we had to drive through a sandstone tunnel while making a hard 90 degree turn. I had to drive up on the outside wall to clear the inside, and as soon as I came out of the tunnel there was another tight spot to negotiate. The guy riding shotgun took a picture of the sandstone wall almost conforming perfectly to the drivers side of the cab, with mirror pulled in and only a couple of inches clearance including the sandstone sloping in to follow the slope of the door window contour and a little overhang over the roof! The previous day we had gone way up the mountain on the north side of the park at a trail that began somewhere near the Peg Leg Smith monument, and that was so steep in spots, two dirt bikers told us they had to turn around. They followed us up the hill just to watch. It wasn't easy, but we made it up the nasty part that brought them to a halt and waved goodbye as we continued on up! My Power Wagon and my buddy's old beater V8 Jeep, Can Do that trip, as we used to say in the Seabees! No explaining necessary about watching that coffee pot. Is there still a kink in your trigger finger from drinking gallons of the Goat Locker's favorite beverage?

Filming the adventure is cool for the one filming I get it. Dollars to doughnuts there are people who dont necessarily enjoy it but simply put up with just to get along. I have personnaly stopped adventuring in groups specifically because of those who want to video all the time. I get there are cool things people want to video and take pictures of, but I have been in more than one group where we are waiting 20 0r 30 minutes for people to catch up several times a day. I say to each his own, but for me I mostly travel alone now be ause of this - but then again I more of a loner personality type anyhow so it works out for all. I enjoy your content and thank you

Brad next trip you need to make a breakfast dish. It’s basically sliced green apples or honey crisp apples Lay them out on the bottom of the baking sheet. Add 2 or 3 tbs of butter then lay in sliced French bread that has been dipped in a egg wash with cinnamon and sugar. That Am pop the sheet in the camp oven and once the bread Browns a little 15-20 min at 325. Drizzle the apples and sauce on the French toast. It’s a Delicious filling dish 🤤 😊

Cool video. We made almost this exact trip in the video, but in reverse order in Jan of 2022. We came to Diablo Drop Off from below (north to south) and tried to go up it in a Toyota Tundra 4WD and couldn’t make it with all the sand and ruts. We got close to the top and the sand grabbed our tires and pulled us literally 6 inches from the side edge. We came inches from rolling the truck down the pass. Yikes! Very, very scary. We had seen some Jeeps just roll up it with little issue. Moral of the story, it’s WAY easier to go down it (south to north) than up and if you go up it, you need some very wide tires and killin’ suspension. A stock 4WD might not be able to make it, so if that’s you, come at it from the south.

Just a reminder for anyone who isn't familiar with the mud caves... do not enter them after a recent rain, it's called a mud cave for a reason. I should also add that that Arroyo Tapiado mud cave isn't that difficult to access, we've gotten a 12 seat Nissan NV there. But again, don't go alone and more capable vehicles certainly wouldn't hurt.
