Thanks so much for filming the Roubideaux trail! No one ever shows that, and I've wondered whether that side trek was worth it. It looks awesome.

Antoine Roubideaux was a fur trader. He built Fort Uncompaghre in Delta, CO in 1828. Utes killed a bunch of people and attacked the fort. He was blamed because he sold guns to them. He then wound up in St. Louis. Things were named after him. I've been in Delta for 7 years (originally from St. Louis) and didn't know the Roubideaux significance. Small world.

If you go thru this area again, I highly recommend Escalante Canyon to Hwy 141. From Delta, CO, I usually take Sawmill Mesa to Escalante. It takes longer, but the drop down into the canyon is worth it. I was out there last Sunday in my '68 CJ5. I saw 3 groups of bighorn sheep. And you have to check out the Potholes. It's fun, but never locked in the hubs. After getting up out of the canyon, I turned around due to rain. No top on Jeep. Instead of Moab, I want to explore more trails south of Naturita. And west of Green River, UT.

On the Roubideaux loop, if you got off the loop, you would have wound up back in Montrose. Eventually.

This is BEAUTIFUL. Does one actually NEED a 4wheel drive and clearance for the Rimrocker trail only? In the video it doesn’t look like it. We WILL do this trail soon.

13:20 Don't you carry a saw? One would think there'd be some space at least in your trailer for one? I carry an 18V reciprocating saw (Milwaukee Hacksall) with 12" pruning blades. It's not very big and not very heavy, and goes through medium-sized trees pretty quickly.

I'll be in Montrose in August and I am booked in Moab afterwards, I didn't know that you could get to Moab completely offroad! I have a 2dr wrangler rubicon I'll be carrying 4 extra gallons of fuel Do you think that's enough gas for the trip?
@TrailTraveler

Should be fine. It’s only 160 miles and there is a gas stop along the way

I was going to say the same thing. Dewalt 12" 20V with a case, gloves, glasses and chaps sets you back about $350 total but is one of the best things to take on Colorado trails - especially early in the season
