Train driver's view on the sprinter service from Den Haag HS to Dordrecht. This video was recorded on the 15th of November. Pretty cold outside and it rained every now and then. As I said on other video's: typical Dutch weather. We get to run 5 carriages of SGMm.
The ride started in at Den Haag CS, but I forgot to hit the record button before departure, which explains the weird start of the video.
It's 15.14 and before we can depart we have to wait for our transfers from the intercity service coming from the direction of Leiden. At our departure we're a minute behind in schedule. As soon as we've departed we try to get back on schedule ASAP. Luckily for us there's enough time between Moerwijk and Rijswijk, zo we're back on "track" in no time!
Just before Delft we hit the temporary speed limit of 80km/h. This speed limit will stay there until the four tunnels in Delft are available for traffic. Until then, the air pressure in the opened two tunnels is too high.
Because the delayed intercity (+1) is still in front of us we need to lower our speed a little more before we arrive in Delft. After Delft there enough space between us and the intercity and we can run normal speed again. At the end of the tunnel you'll see the green E-sign telling us it's the end of the temporary speed limit as well. Perfect! Now we can speed up to 120km/h again.
Rain starts falling from the sky and the tracks get a little slippery. Not too much, so we still make it on time to Schiedam and Rotterdam. On our arrival you can hear the sound of the dead man's paddle. As soon as you forget to tilt your feet after a minute, the zoom will sounds to remind you of that. Of you don't respond soon, the train will hit all the brakes.
It takes a little longer in Rotterdam before we depart because the intercity direct service is a few minutes late. The train manager asks to wait until al transfers are on board. That okay for us. A minute late we depart to Blaak. Because we speed up the train to its maximum allowed speed we back on schedule on our arrival in Blaak. Just as we like it!
After Rotterdam Blaak we keep the train perfectly on in its time path. Because the weather is wet the tracks can be very slippery. When this is the case we speed up to its maximum speed and hit the brakes a little earlier to avoid gliding over the tracks.
Between Barendrecht and Zwijndrecht you see "de Kijfhoek" on the right. This is Hollands biggest train yard for freight trains. After Zwijndrecht we pass the biggest land mark of Dordrecht, the bridge. And of course we arrive perfectly on time at our final stop.
I hope you've enjoyed this video. Stay tuned for more and if you have any questions, please let me know in the comments below! Have a great weekend! Cheers!
