Your one of a kind then! 😁 The youngest of the train sets will continue service until 2028-2030. 😊 Then DDNG will replace these ICM's and DDZ.

Hi, Stefan! Great video and greeting from Middelburg :) I'd like to ask if you have any idea what the purpose of the dip in elevation of the tracks is at around 4:15?

Thank you for your great compliment! 😁😁 Happy you liked the ride to the South West! The dip in elevation is caused by water that runs under the dike. Slowly it sinks deeper and deeper each year. Until the point where we must fill it up again. 🤣 Takes many many years btw.

It occurs to me to mention another reason why I enjoy your videos. There is a clear sense of what (the driver) is doing. Starting and stopping obviously, accelerating and slowing down, explaining what is happening relative to signaling and the Netherlands rail system and the glorious skies!

Hi Steve! In The Netherlands we drive I nthe right side. In Belgium they drive on the left side. That past of the HSL crosses the border. That's why we drive on the left there. 😁

Dat sein is niet geldig voor de machinist. Die hangt er voor de conducteur. De machinist moet zicht hebben op zijn sein of op een herhalingssein.

Unfortunately only on the HSL and three other lines in our country. But ProRail wants to install the system in the upcoming decennia. Will take some time though.

Nope! De machinist moet alle signalen die de trein geeft mee kunnen krijgen. Geluidsdragers zijn niet toegestaan.

Wees gerust.... We hebben gewoon 100% tractie. 😉 VIRM heeft alleen het gewicht van zo'n 250 tot 700 auto's.

How does the train power everything during voltage changes or de-energized sections? I understand that the motors can be replaced by inertia, but what about instruments/lighting/heating/ventilation/etc. ? Is it just batteries?

Good question! All vital systems will keep working. Safety systems for the driver, lights passengers etc. Ventilation will be shut off during driving without power. Those would drain the battery too fast.

Do you get advanced warning of signals or speed changes ahead on your dash screen? ( I was a brakeman for CP Rail in the '80s ).

Oeh that's awesome! 😍 When driving under ERTMS the DMI indeed shows all the speed limits and then the driver must slow down. Make sure to check out newer videos to see that on the speedometer. 😁😁 When driving under ATB the driver must have full knowledge of the speed limits on every location.

Correct! But this was to create more space between the slower train ahead of us. Extreme coasting. Until the tunnel. Then 200kph! 🎉🎉

Hoi Stefan. Als je door de loc loopt van de ene kant naar de andere kant, wat maakt er dan precies zoveel lawaai ? Een ventilator ? Want de loc staat wel stil, maar er maakt een of ander apparaat in de machinekamer héél veel herrie......

Als de trein stilstaat moet de locomotief nog steeds alle wagons voorzien van stroom. Die systemen werken niet in stilte natuurlijk. 😁
