Thanks for another great video CCET video. That little switcher sounds superb on Williamsburg Hill. Sadly to see the derailment damage. Looks like the heavy train spread the gauge where the fixings were poor in rotten ties. A common occurrence these days with the weight of loaded grain cars putting something like 30 tons per axle onto the track. I've been out to some similar details almost always heavily loaded cars that spread the gauge. Once those wheels drop inside the tracks they sure make a very quick job of destroying the road until they come to a stop! A great shame that some of the grainers tipped over. Makes recovery much more difficult. If they're upright it's a lot easier! Some of the ties look well past their sell by date but that's also common today with minimum maintenance due to the costs constantly escalating. The railroads are finding it increasingly difficult to stay on top of repairs and remain viable as their profit margins are decreasing. Nice to see the animals looking so well. Chessie seems to be having a good time racing about playing chase with Loki. Norfie the cat sure looks well! I can remember when she appeared on your doorstep as a hungry stray kitten. She sure chose the right house to come to!

Word is that ODOT is slowly turning Rt-32 into true interstate standards and intend to make it into the eastern section of I-74. There are big changes happening all along like at Athens. Eventually it will meet the already designated I-74 in North Carolina. One day, it should go from Davenport IA to near Myrtle Beach at the Atlantic Ocean
@JawTooth4 ай бұрын
Yes, I have heard that. I love it. It really makes it easy for me to get around. In the past year they have removed 4 red lights, modified a couple and removed a dangerous cross road. No more big backups on Rt32 like they used to always have.
@allanjohnson32434 ай бұрын
I-73 is what is going to Myrtle Beach…
@Tractorgal4 ай бұрын
@@allanjohnson3243- technically you are both correct as many US roads “share” the same route. If you look at a map (or drive it) you’ll note that I-74 and I-73 run together on the same pavement in North Carolina. I was told that the intention is to split the two at the Ohio River, 73 going north, meeting I-75 and going to the Canadian border at Sault Ste. Marie, MI, then 74 would go on to Cincinnati to join the pre-existing section. West Virginia and a sliver of Virginia seem to be the ones holding things up as they have a few option as to where their section meets up - Huntington or Parkersburg or?

At 6 minutes & 38 seconds in, your video shows a beautiful lawn at somebody's house. Nice shady spot for train watching......... I wonder why they are running that MP15 with doors open on the hood - maybe an attempt to keep it running cooler? Or, maybe when they're in their own cars, they are the type who drive around with no hood over their engines. (Just kidding.) Some of those grain cars don't look hurt enough for them to be scrapped out. I'm guessing they will set them back on their trucks and repair whatever minor damage they may have sustained. Your usual great job,JT. I am a bit concerned about Cincinnati Eastern's track record regarding derailments. It is fortunate that the freight on that line is predominantly non-toxic or flammable and the geography is rural; cars on their sides extending beyond railroad property is definitely not a minor mishap. I won't be surprised if the FRA lowers track speeds and implements more stringent track inspections on the CCE. Thanks again for all your content. Cheers!

8:54 - I'm not a "railfan" but I've always had a question, and watching this video I had it again, so I figured I'd ask the people most likely to know the answer. At the time stamp, to the side of the tracks (left side) you see a bunch of "telephone poles" (or electricity or whatever) and they're all leaning at a crazy angle. When I drove on Highway 97 from Klamath Falls OR to Weed CA, I've noticed that a lot of the telephone poles are canted, some are down, some are hanging by the wires, but have no bottom.... so I wonder what the deal is? Are they defunct? Electricity? Telephone? Telegraph? Do they serve a current purpose? I remember noting the same thing in Arizona when I lived there. And some of them were super short, like not even at eyeball height for the conductor of the train. So same question. Also, thanks for the video. I love learning about new stuff I've spent little time learning. This video is a perfect example!
@JawTooth4 ай бұрын
The old pole line in this video has been dead for two decades. They were used to give power to the line side signals, the defect detectors, repeaters, crossings in some areas or just wherever the railroad needed power. Most pole lines are being shut off due to high maintenance costs and they set meters and run electric where it is needed. At one time they were very common and even used for communication. Thanks for watching and commenting!

If it's been really hot out there and the cars get overloaded the rails can shift which causes derailments. Happens alot....Just don't get to close my friend!!

I'm glad you don't stand to close to trains cause you never know when this could happen. The spot that always concerns me is next to that little bridge that use to go up and down. By the graveyard 😮
