Brian that tunnel started out as a solid rock bore in the 1870's then was enlarged and lined with concrete during the "1963 line relocation project" where most of the old rathole tunnels in Kentucky and Tennessee were bypassed . It is the only original rathole tunnel that is still in use today .

Hey JT loved that shot from the walkway to the river monitor, it's all of the extra things you do that make your videos the best! Abandoned routes, bridges, places you see going to or going home all of the other things you do and see is what makes us feel like we are with you and there is an extent to how many boxes in a row I can watch. Great job!

That's a very neat perspective of the short mixed freight in the foreground of the train meet. I like it very much. This train had an untagged TTX box car in a good cut of box cars. It's pretty rare to catch one the vandals haven't hit yet, and I like it! 😄😄😄❤❤❤

Thank you for the fabulous video, JT. You brought us excellent trains and wonderful scenery! Tennessee is one of the most beautiful states I've had the opportunity to visit yet. That was so cool 😎 JT! A long intermodal entering the tunnel. It had several olive green containers, which are my favorite! I'm surprised, as old as that tunnel looks, that the buiders had the foresight to make it tall enough for double stack trains! 😀😀😀😀❤❤❤❤

FABULOUSO!! These must be a few of the surprise locations you promised us a little while back! I really liked the multi-track yard shots and that tunnel was worth the wait! It's an outstanding modeling candidate. That USGS 'thing' is a river monitoring station. Typically records the flow of the river as well as the height of the water. We have one in Franklin, PA that has an active internet camera for river watching. Thankful that you still are willing and able to do these videos for us - I truly enjoy them! Not being able to travel as I'd like to, these are a fantastic substitute for me missing the actual travels.

Love this one. Back in 1952 - 1953 Mom and Dad were going to school in Chattanooga and Dad worked the hump at the Debutts yard. He took us kids over to see it in action a few times. Later, in 1956 we were back in Chattanooga. We lived across the street from the school where I went to the 6th grade. Both were about 6 blocks from where you are filming. Brings back lots of memories. Looking forward to the others from here. Thanks much.

Hi there JT enjoy watching your vids over the past years. A side note I'm 80 now but back in '63 just graduated HS and that fall my uncle at the B&O RR freight house on E. 5th ave across from back then Rockwell plant helped me get a job on the C&N div. as a tower operator on the xtra board. ( means i would train and work any shift for vacations, sick, call offs) Learned 8 different towers from the old US tower downtown Cols.OH to Newark OH. These were the old "interlocking" towers and some were still coal fired. You had to manually throw the switches connected to piping that went down and out to the tracks. A real pain in the winter. Towers still had functioning "Mores Code" signals, but we had radios to talk with the dispatcher. Between towers was called blocks. And you had to log & report every train to the dispatcher. The C&N had E. bound & W bound tracks. They were PRR's but B&O had the right of way. I had freight trains on all 3 shifts & passenger on 1st & 2nd. My last tour of duty was 3rd @ Washington CT House OH, the "Diamond" crossing you've done a vid on before, the fall & winter of '64/'65. The E/W tracks was B&O and the N/W - S/E back then was the "D,T, & I" Detroit, Toledo, and Ironton. I was 19 when I hired on but was furloughed in April '65 because of impending RR mergers. As one duty a dispatcher would request us to copy down a train order in triplicate, 1 for the engineer, 1 for conductor, 1 stayed in the tower. Throw a signal lite on the approaching train, tie the orders on wood "Y" handel sticks. The orders were tied with twine at the top of the y across each point. The long Y stick for engineer, the short for the Conductor. They slow the train down to 15mph or so and would run their arm thru the Y and snag the orders. A challenge for me standing next to the end of the tie especially at night.as I'm only 5' 8". Never missed a hand on in my 3 yrs as a tower opr. Just wanted to give you a little insight from an old "railroader" of 60 yrs ago. My grandfather was a Steam Locomotive Engineer for the PRR. His run was over the same tracks east out of Columbus to "Trinway" a tiny village next to "Dresden OH" not far from "Coshotcon OH" Take Care😉

As I live in SoCal, the summer humidity here is in the 54-57% range, and that coupled with 90+ degree temps is uncomfortable but tolerable. I would imagine the humidity there in Ohio/Kentucky/Tennessee is FAR higher here in August. I've spent time in South Carolina (in Charleston) during late July and the humidity is so high that it takes your breath away. I get it... The trouble you go to to get fresh spots to shoot your trains is nothing short of stellar. We, your fans, salute your efforts - but we also know you love it!! Nothing is better, Brian, than making a living doing something you totally love. You are one blessed man, buddy. Cheers!
