Not many power plants are Go fired in the US. Those trains are headed for Norfolk Virginia where they have a Coal Port. They load ships to China etc Chinese our biggest user. Then India then a few others

It was many years ago my late husband worked part time helping repair bulid and mIntIn a miniature railroad layout for a physician Now deceased) o in Katy Texas they needed coal for the engine. I don't know what to say, JT! The first train had 204 +/- cars, and the second had 209. That's just amazing! Guessing the cars were loaded with 100 tons each that would mean between the two trains they were carrying over 82 million pounds of coal! Nearly unbelievable catch. 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

This is the BEST train video I have ever seen! The location was perfect, the video was crystal clear, the weather was as good as it can get, there was nothing to distract the viewer and best of all was the surprise of the second train. Also, the pure power of the trains with all of the locomotives. And I was especially happy to see you with a hat on. Your opening encounter with trains in this video was impressive, Jaw Tooth! The westbound loaded CSX coal train on the ground with CSX 1776 "Spirit of Our Armed Forces" commemorative locomotive was the third locomotive on this train that was passing under the Norfolk Southern trestle and bridge over the Ohio River. At 1:05 a southbound Norfolk Southern loaded coal train appeared on the trestle and passed over the CSX train. The Norfolk Souther train has two locomotives on the front, three mid-train DPUs and two end of train DPUs. These two coal trains were followed by an eastbound CSX loaded coal and eastbound Norfolk Souther loaded coal train on the ground. The last train was a long double stack train heading south on the trestle. We haven't seen this many coal trains at Kenova, West Virginia in a long time .

I love seeing a lot of *working* locomotives on one train. I love the DPU's. Sometimes you can see 5 or six locomotives in a row with no train cars behind them, because the locomotives are just being relocated. For me this is one of the best videos ever 👌

Great catch of the CSX and NS coal trains plus the mid train end of train dpu's on the Norfolk Southern coal train . The CSX coal had the 3 engines leading their coal which had the Spirit of Armed Forces unit as the third power unit trailing behind the other 2 Gevos.

When I was little, when we traveled from Michigan to West Virginia to visit family, it would be nothing to see multiple coal trains, especially from southern Ohio on down. 3 DPUs seems rare today but I remember as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s seeing them regularly on the Southern mainline west of Charlotte. The coal trains heading to the local plants had come down to the piedmont over the Saluda grade and needed the extra power. Of course back then they would have a bay window caboose on the back end. Like I just told gambit, 59°F with heavy rain here in Rhinelander. Highs in the upper 50s to low 60s for the last 4 days. Once back in the 70s we had snow flurries on the morning of the 4th but nothing that bad since. Loved the over/under Kenova action with the triple DPUS. Keep the electric car fuel coming.
