Thanks for sharing this. We have friends in Poznan and Warsaw, and last summer we visited Gdansk and Sopot. We’ve had many fun train trips in Poland, and this reminded me of them. I love Poland and the people, and can’t wait to go back.

Very enjoyable video, I especially love the trivia you put throughout the scenes :) One note: 9:25 - the bridge you're crossing is Most Średnicowy (Cross-city line bridge). Most Gdański is a bit to the north, but some trains also cross the river there, just not this one. Nonetheless, good job!

I remember travelling on this kind of sleeping car between Warsaw and Vilnius in 2004. I was a bit dissapointed because I had been looking forward to the re-gauge process, only to discover that they used SUW 2000 between Poland and Lithuania. Still a fun ride. Sad it no longer operates...

I like travelling by PKP Intercity trian, though I have so far made most of my trips during daytime. The sleeper berths do look comfy and I know that Poland is one of those Central European countries with the greatest density of sleeper trains, given the country's size and geography, that lends itself well to the operation of sleeper trains. I haven't made it as far east as Przemysl yet, so nice to get insights from your film. Cool stuff!

I made almost the same trip (Gdansk-Lvov) back in 2002. There was a lone car on route Gdansk-Odessa, also operated by WARS. We departed at the evening and arrived to Lvov almost exactly 24 hours later. The car was attached to different trains in Poland. We arrived in Przemysl at the daytime, and spent like 5 hours in a rail yard there, exchanging the bogies and waiting for a Ukrainian train to pick us up.

TLK is the most budget option provided by PKP Intercity. TLK operates with older cars, (however often modernized), there is no extra services, like restaurant car, less space in compartments, etc. InterCity (IC) line is better - still rather slow, however with better standard. To be honest - sometimes there are TLK trains with Intercity standards or better - however that isn not guaranteed. The faster options are: Express InterCity (EIC) whitch run faster and has a good quaity of service and Express InterCity Premium (EIP) perated by high speed Pendolino train - with high, airplane-like standard and the best travel tiimes. Unfortunately - due to infrastructire still there is no such a speed like for example TGV, but definitely speeds are better than in standard Polish railway lines.

@@z00h Although a lot of simplification and mixup underlies this comment (i.e. possibly thinking of Auschwitz, which is near (ca. 30km) Kraków), there was actually a Nazi camp in Kraków in Płaszów (You can sill visit its remains which became a quiet, green and respectful place for such a horrifying location; it was not concentration or extermination camp linke AUschwitz, but more a work camp) which may be better known to a person from US due to its portrayal in "Schindler's List".

A few years ago, normal gauge tracks from Chop to Mukacheve were reconstructed and extended by a few hundred meters to reach the main railway station. From then on, Hungarian IC trains can reach the once-Hungarian city in Subcarpathia without a bogie change. For Lviv, the German(!) name Lemberg is used by Subcarpathian Hungarians. (For Ukraine outside Subcarpathia, a mix of Ukrainian, Russian and German names are used by Hungarians, depicting the complex history of today's Ukraine - Russian for Kiev and Donetsk, (old) Ukrainian for Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia, German for Chernivtsi and Lviv.)

Destroy of SUW 2000 was incompetence or betrayal? Now this system was very helpful for the container train between Europa and China, no change the bogie, faster ride

The city of Lviv was Polish before World War II. After the war, the border was set in Medyka. It is now the border between Ukraine (until 1990 the Soviet Union) and Poland. Medyka is the last town in the European Union. Very interesting travel.

"The city of Lviv was Polish before World War II" ... as it was Austrian before World War I, then Soviet after WWII, and now it is Ukrainian. The same could be said abut Gdansk/Danzig, Wroclaw/Breslau or Stettin/ Szczecin. History of Mitteleuropa is much longer and complicated than "before WWII".
