I actually fly the T-6B currently in naval flight school. That pin in the black canopy handle IS NOT the canopy fracturing pin. It is the ejection seat pin that has been removed from the seat and stowed in the handle (this is the correct spot for it in flight to prevent a FOD hazard). Also we fly with the CFS pin INSTALLED to prevent inadvertently activating it in flight. So even if it was CFS pin, it would still be correctly installed. The actual CFS handle is on the lower left side panel.

The Iris T-6A was my second favorite platform in FSX, tied with the DoDo 206 and sandwiched between Cantaneo's T-45 as a very close 3rd and the VRS Super Bug as 1st. An actual micro-sim qualified sim in MSFS is exciting. From both the Dash 1 and those aviators I've spoken with while vacationing at NAS Pensacola verify that left roll tendency. Added in Edit: Layman wannabe here so take this FWIW, The bold face in the Dash 1 says no OCF below 10,000 AGL. In fact, I think there's something in there that if you depart below 10K, give the plane up and get out. I always thought that would be dependent on how severe that departure is and at what corner of the envelope. But it's been years since I was working my way through the curriculum so I may be wrong on that.
@Viper313005 ай бұрын
There isn't any specific altitude limit for OCF boldface for the T-6. Only what to do with the controls in order to recover. I believe the minimum altitude for OCF to look for is 7,000 AGL. The T-6 is very easy to control, and all it takes to regain controlled flight is literally taking your feet off the rudder pedals and hands off the stick for a few seconds. For minimum altitude before ejecting, I believe its either 2,000 or 3,000 feet AGL.

@goblin2bis7076 ай бұрын
For the smoke, i had this, but on Blackbird website and discord, they said it is cause by the interaction with two planes in MSFS : the freeware Fokker DR1triplane, and the SWS SF260 plane addon. I have the Fokker DR1, i removed it, no more smoke. The pitch trim is very sensitive.

Would the 'response,' to stick and rudder inputs be the difference between mechanical controls, versus 'fly by wire'? I was pretty sure the T-6 was still the traditional mechanical control design, and not the more modern 'FBW,' design. As you said, an adjustment in the control sensitivity settings, may give you a better feel in handling. On the canopy handle there was the 'pin,' with a ribbon that was the standard 'Remove before flight,' red ribbon. The pin should be removed for flight. I'm sure in the real aircraft, the pin would be a hazard, in the event the canopy had to be opened for pilot jettison, in an emergency. Parachutes are probably standard issue to the pilots.
@Alienxcow6 ай бұрын
That pin you see in the canopy handle is from the ejection handle on the seat. It is supposed to be on the canopy handle in flight. T-6s cannot jettison the canopy. Good try though
@jameslanning84055 ай бұрын
@@Alienxcow Okay... I got that. But the ribbon is misleading then, "Remove Before Flight," being printed on the ribbon. Why would the T-6 have an ejection seat, but not a jettisoned canopy? This seems a little confusing to myself. You'd have to have a way to open the canopy, before ejecting from the plane. There must be some sort of way, to dislodge the hinged side of the canopy, so that it can be removed, before being shot out of the plane!. Or, is the pilot and back esat just shot through the plexiglass? Or whatever materials the canopy is made from...

@@jameslanning8405 There's a detonation system inside the canopy that fractures and blows out the glass. It's activated by that handle behind the throttle.
