This video is way more stuff, not just the brainless act. We get on the right side of Andy-ran-Dandy, we get to see a Herzog ballast train working, and end it with a huge monster M652!

I have been railfanning in Bergen, NY on the CSX line and Norfolk Southern's Southern Tier Line in Letchworth State Park and Swain, NY. I agree with you it's a concerning and scary thing. I'e seen it happen before in person and on railcams. Started becoming a fan of trains when I was a kid and got my first HO Scale model train set in 2014.

@@carolynsteed3649 Your absolutely correct, the pedestrian who used the gauge instead of using the crossing to cross the tracks I saw when I was railfanning in Bergen, NY (2 tracks on that line) could have tripped and fell onto either track 1 or track 2 because he decided not to use the crossing to cross the tracks. I could see one of Amtrak's Maple Leaf trains that was heading from Buffalo/DePew, NY to Rochester, NY approaching at the same time he was about to cross. I warned him that a train was coming and he just kept going across the gauge instead of stepping away from track 2 and using the crossing instead. Had I not been there to warn him about the train approaching he could have sent Amtrak into emergency which would have been dangerous. I'm just happy that I was there at the time and that he didn't put a 90 mph Amtrak train into emergency.

But maybe if it was a great runner who was running with speed and grace you could say he was still an idiot, but unlikely he would have actuality gotten hit. When I was a kid I hung out down by the switch track to the point where most of them knew me. They would unhook from the caboose, while they were doin their thing they let me go get on it to "look around". One guy was going to let me ride up the line to town in the engine, only couple miles, but the other guy said otherwise. Wish I had a camera back then, but it was just life experiences, no need to film it. A lot of the engines back then had seaboard system on them, but now its a CSX line.

Yep, I even had to tell a guy who crossed the tracks without using the crossing that a train was coming. I was in Bergen, NY (two tracks on that line) railfanning on the CSX line when this happened and one of Amtrak's Maple Leaf trains was due to come through the village enroute to Rochester, NY from Buffalo/DePew, NY. I heard Amtrak's horn since their are a few other crossings down the line and saw the locomotives headlights about a minute later. He went right passed me, when I saw him start to cross track 2 I told him that a trains coming. As soon as he heard me say that he walked all the way across both tracks just before the crossings started up. That really concerned me for his safety due to how fast the Amtrak's go through there. I normally estimate them going 80 mph to 90 mph on that line with CSX trains going 60 mph. He should have thought first before he crossed, luckily I was there to let him know when he should have used the crossing itself instead of not using the crossing to cross the tracks.

That dude running across the track brought back a very close call I almost had when I was 12. I was on the track looking for date nails, and I was looking at the ground and the other way. This big ole NS train was booking it down the track blowing his horn. Never heard it. I turned around and saw the train coming. I was by a crossing and never heard the bells either. I froze up. I have no idea how I got off the track. The front of the locomotive was no more than 5 feet away from me. The crew must have been turning white in the cab. I can only say it was God who saved me that day. That's the ony way I can explain how I got out from in front of that train. Never did anything like that again. There but for the grace of God I'm still here today.

I do some railfanning as well. If it's a rainy or snowy day depending on the season i'm my area I normally watch Virtual Railfan's Fairport, NY railcam. Iv'e seen on multiple occasions pedestrians trespassing on the tracks. Their are a set of three of them so theirs more trains a day than a single track. I was watching that railcam one day and this pedestrian who must have been a high schooler because he had a backpack with him was right in the middle of track 1. Not even a few minutes later a CSX grain train came cruising through the village. I always wonder what these people were thinking whenever I see someone walking on the tracks or across a crossing when the gates are down.

In February last year, I caught a northbound B651 with some CP, & I ain't lying when I say that the Mustang driver was FIVE SECONDS from getting smashed! Nice trains and with the Herzog Dump Hooper train! Aside from that, I’ve experienced this once (not someone running across the tracks), but it literally is astonishing how people have no sense of awareness whatsoever. If that train was moving like the ones down here in the Midwest, he wouldn’t have made it. The trains I get down here are cruisers to dashers anywhere between 30 and 70 depending on the area and traffic flow of each line.

That guy is ultra reckless with his life. I timed the close approach of this train 4 times with a stopwatch; that guy missed getting disintegrated by only 1.7 seconds! Looks like the train is about 300ft(100 yds) away when the guy comes into the picture and the guy runs maybe 80ft to avoid the train. The guy runs the distance in 4 seconds, averaging 20ft/sec. He didn't look like he was running that fast, but notice that at times both feet are off the ground at the same time. He is running about 13.5 MPH, while the train is doing about 52ft/sec, about 35MPH. Foolish stunt, 1 slip, DEAD!

@@hnf1930 it wasn't meant as a correction. People or railfans who think they know everything about "trains" are real boors. I speak from experience having worked as a railroader from '78 until 2017. These guys that Don't pay attention come really close to the amtrax and freight lines several times always wait for the lights to stop flashing, and never cross in front of the train like that...

Many times, while running my train, I've encountered cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, and pedestrians tempting fate on the rails. Blowing the horn has no effect on these people. Drivers are oblivious to the train, completely ignoring its presence and looming disaster. I've missed people and cars by fractions of an inch while my 80,000-ton train blows by at 60 mph, 88 ft/sec! I tell ya man, some people (mainly if they know NOTHING about trains) when they are on the railroads are like "Fuck this shit" and willl do EXACLTY what that person did. I remeber me and my buddy were railfanning on the MBTA lowell line in MA, and we saw a guy do the same thing, and we got it all on camrea (incase your wondering I wont upload it because I dont feel like uploading it because it makes me mad lol) Now I wont say thats everybody, because I know that some people (like me and possibly you reading this) know better and to NOT do that, but not everybody knows that. The point of this comment is BE SAFE ON THE RAILROADS! also great shots by the way :>!

I can't believe that Idiot crossing with just seconds to spare to save himself 2 mins of waiting until it's fully clear, I can just imagine the Horror on the Train Driver face when he had to put up with this Lunacy, This crossing is one of the best I have seen in the US giving you plenty of time to stop & wait for the train to pass, In the UK we get about 1 min 30 warning with Double Gates which also blanks off the lower part of the gates, this also cover the whole road & the railway tracks are all fenced in so unless you jump over a 5 foot gate, you have to wait.
