Have fond memories of Queen St except the one day I was walking between Central and Queens and got lost and ended up in the then infamous Sauchiehall St so wide boy cockney muggins asks this bloke "hey where is Queen St station?" and he smacked me in the mouth mumbling some ancient celtic stuff and I was so taken aback I for a moment didn't sort the bloke out there and then but had to because I was on an army travel warrant and in uniform and I would have had it ripped out of me by me mates, my daughter who now lives in Clydebank loves to regale my tale of my first visit to Glasgow and few years back I showed her where it happened too outside what is now a McDonalds. Years prior to this as nippers we had a holiday cottage on the other side of Morar sound and my father BR signalman legend had spoken with the drivers who if they saw me and brother waving frantically by the old platelayers hut just before the viaduct he would consider it a solid one if he gave us a ride to Mallaig and back so we got to ride the old baby Sulzer's and they were so friendly and polite. No healthy elfs about them days and we were given all sorts of freebies in Mallaig like fresh landed fish to take back for me mum to cook up :D

Great location back in the day with nice loco hauled trains 👍🏻 SLS have done a fantastic job recreating a Scot rail push pull class 47 712 Lady Diana Spencer with Mk3s and a Mk2 DBSO 🤩

Great video, thanks for posting this. Been there many times over the years. Trying to build my layout loosely based on Queen St/Central St. Have e3d printed sone relay boxes and looking fir information (dimensions) on other bits of equipment. Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks again. Charlie

Very interesting. Coming from London this is very similar to the Exeter services back when they were loco hauled and ran round at Waterloo

The Intercity sleeping car we saw, was probably a Scottish internal working. These went from Aberdeen and Inverness to Glasgow, and it was 1989 these last ran.

Clydebridge Station I remember a full sleeper service running between Glasgow and Inverness during that era, and I also recall a single sleeper car arriving in Glasgow just after lunchtime (empty) as part of a morning Aberdeen to Glasgow service from Monday - Saturday. I learned some years ago from a rail forum that this sleeper car was detached from the Glasgow to Inverness sleeper at Perth, where it was attached to an early morning train to Aberdeen (allowing passengers from Glasgow to travel overnight to Aberdeen). If my memory serves me correctly, this car was usually split from the rake at Queen Street, before being sent back up to Cowlairs on it's own (usually behind a class 26). I'm not sure what's going on in the video here. It seems to be situated to the rear of a rake which has come in from Inverness behind the 47/4. Perhaps it was attached there earlier to be taken away with the ecs from the Inverness train? Or is there something else going on? It was interesting to see the InterCity liveried sleeper car here as well. Edit: actually, it has just occured to me that that's why 47716 is shown running light into platform seven: it has removed the sleeper car from that Aberdeen service (just before the film begins), and dropped it onto the rake of ecs on platform two. It then returns to platform seven to head the next northbound service to Aberdeen.

Loved the old class 27’s even though they were mega noisy. 101-104’s great also

That shunter should have been put on a warning standing between coach and platform, a big naughty no no even in the 80's after a spate of deaths and serious injuries caused by shuffling stock rebounding, only has to move a foot or two and you get whacked by how many kinetic tons, an argument us squishy humans never going to win...

never ever swung by this smashing-looking terminus that grabs my attention...is the right hand tunneling plugged?

I believe the right hand tunnel was part of the shunt neck for the goods yard (now car park) at the side of the station.
