My wife and I recently took an Amtrak trip from Seattle down our west coast to L.A. in the U.S.. The RR right-of-way was littered with trash, garbage and a never-ending bunch of tent cities used by the poor, jobless and homeless who populate the route. It was disgraceful to say the least. What a nice, pleasent change to see your lovely countryside, the immaculate RR right-of-way and the incredible vistas of your mountains. I'm also a life-long train nut, from the real stuff down to my O scale (1 to 48) layout, which depicts a Christmas scenario year-round! Keep up the wonderful videos!

Perhaps it is obvious; passengers see all this bright clear scenery moving past them at the side. T+--hese videos show a straight ahead unobstructed point of view with all the sight lines moving relative to the movement of the train. Along with all that it satisfies my curiosity to see the inside of the cab and to learn something about what the driver is doing. The visual quality of these videos is really first class! I run them full screen (of course) and have Maps open at the same time which gives me a little extra sense of where this is all happening. Good stuff.

@RandomUser24015 жыл бұрын

24 hours!! I didn't realize any country still had that type of rest law...i'm sorry, I know how hard that is! I love your motors! I got to run an AEM-7(?) on the N.E. Corridor from New York to Boston (the only 'high speed' track in the U.S. as far as I know). The throttle had one notch from neutral to Run-1. After that it was all just a smooth throttle control all the way out until 125 mph. I kept breaking loose after being a bit more aggressive coming out than I should have. When that happens it drops all the amps and you have to start over again. There was a young woman who was in training so we traded off every once in awhile and I felt completely incompetent because she had a light touch and never broke it loose lol

It's embarrassing to see how clean the countryside is compared to the West Coast of California, litter-free! Americans just don't have the pride in their country as other nations do; we are spoiled and take much for granted. Saw a little graffiti, but in the States, it would be a solid line of it with no surface untouched. Thank you.
@michaelroark32634 жыл бұрын
Beautifully done. Downright embarrassing for Americans when you consider the state of our railroads and other infrastructure.
@roboftherock6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick look at your working environment. It looks quite comfortable. Now an observation. Rapperswil appears to be an island of right-hand running. After the single-line section north of Jona, left-hand running returns. I'm sure there is a reason for that, but I'm blessed if I can work it out. Can you reveal the history of this anomaly? Like your Australian subscriber Kennewell, I also get the maps out. I've lost myself for a whole evening just watching one route!
@RailwayEmotions6 жыл бұрын
It's to avoid crossings of trains (and therefore jams), because some trains have certain connections and have to arrive on a specified platform for that, for example the other train at 1:30. As I have said before, our trains can run freely on both tracks, also in Rapperswil - and that's why they run on the right side, it just makes more sense.
@roboftherock6 жыл бұрын
@@RailwayEmotions Those final 5 words say it all! I had noticed the bi-directional signalling all over the place and the crossovers at - what? 1km or 2 km spacing - to facilitate that. Once again, thank you for the explanation and the time to do that.

The small locomotive/Tm collection at Ruti. Is it a private collection? A general query. Lineside, outside many towns are collections of huts and chalets on what could be called allotments. In the UK an allotment is used to grow fruit, vegetables or flowers and the building are small or glass greenhouses. The Swiss buildings are up to 50% of the plot so are these just 'man caves' to escape from next doors noise?
@RailwayEmotions5 жыл бұрын
There‘s a company in Rüti that services, buys and sells those tractors. Not sure what you mean with the allotments though. The little buildings in there are sheds for storage and some of them also allow for a grill party, indoor seating... like a little weekend house. I hope that answers the question.
