You forgot to turn on the headlights! Good information though regarding the loco stabling point near Paddington, I never knew about that! Great video.

I was at Reading uni in the early-mid '90s and would often use these HSTs to get back home, going across London and then North-East from London Liverpool Street. The Paddington-Reading bit was the best part of the journey ! I remember seeing, a short while out of Paddington, some derelict sidings and depots etc. on the RHS of the mainline.

Because of your videos I now want this game. I'm really not a massive gamer but I could see this taking up a lot of my time!

The V12 Valentas' screeching was from the turbos. It's the fan blades of the turbines 'slicing' the air. On top of that was a deep-thrum of the 76-litre diesel as well as a lot of air whooshing too.

Videos like this are good for when you want to see what a train line is like from a driver's point of view. This video was good!

Thank you! Yeah, it is isn't it? Cool to see the drivers eye view of a route.

For the benefit of the anoraks amongst us, during the days of BR two drivers, driver and second man, once took the train up to 140 MPH between Reading and Paddington, with passengers on board...don't tell any one I told you this !!
@lewis724 жыл бұрын
I'm quite sure that I saw two HSTs racing out of Reading back in the early '90s. There were nearly always 2-4 HSTs at Reading, most of the going to/from London from Wales/South West. A Southampton train had got the whistle to go and it didn't budge for a while. Then a Paddington train got the whistle and the two HSTs ragged their bits off out of Reading, filling the place with clag.

IIRC, the only reason it only does 125mph and not any faster is because of the braking distance.

Class 165 is a non Air Conditioned variant of the Networker Turbo, that was primarily designed for metro stopping services in the Thames Valley. Class 166 is an air conditioned variant of the Networker Turbo family and was primarily designed for intermediate stopping services. I say was because a lot have moved west to work Bristol suburban services, a lot having unrefurbished interiors too.
