Wonderful.... I lived on the Isle of Wight for 24 years, ( leaving in December 2013 ), and now live in Thailand many miles away. I have travelled along this line many times and it was happy thoughts that came to mind when watching your computer film. First Class, thank you and I wish you well in the future. Richard.

Just need to clarify that the trains currently run every 20 and 40 mins and not every 30 mins. However when the I.O.W island Line gets the new refurbished D78 old London Underground stock and the crossover at Brading gets put back then the trains will run again every 30mins possible sometime in 2021.

Great video, very much enjoyed watching. Just a shame that train simulator messed up with the locos on the steam railway. No sign of their Class 02 0-4-4-T W24 Calbourne, she's been running on the island lines since 1925, she is the only remaining member of her class to survive. She is the steam railways flag ship loco, closely followed by their pair of 0-6-0 Terriers - No W08 Freshwater, and W11 Newport. These 3 locos are the only locos that actually worked the island lines back in the steam days. Invincible and the Austerity tank locos never worked on the island in steam days. Such a shame that train simulator did not supply one of the original isle of wight locos with the route. Other than that they have done a great job, and your guide was very good to watch.

A very informative and very interesting video, I look forward to seeing more of these in the future. If this was combined with the route learning videos, it would be like a Video125 cab ride wouldn't it? ;)
@PTGRail9 жыл бұрын
Fringe Stalin Haha, it probably would be like a Video 125 cab ride! That was originally what I wanted to do on this channel, but I feel that splitting up the videos into route learning, train guide and route guide works best. I don't want to give people an information overload or make the route learning videos even longer than they already are lol :p Thanks for the comment and feedback :)
@fringestalin62639 жыл бұрын
PTGRail That was really you're original intention? I've been wanting to do something like that... now I feel like I'd be plagiarising :P
@PTGRail9 жыл бұрын
Fringe Stalin Haha yes. When I started out I wanted something similar but not quite the same as what Video 125 do. It didn't work out that way, because of the way route learning videos are as such 'driver training videos'. So don't worry, I will continue with these three different series plus the odd tutorial video and I don't mind if that's what you'd like to do at all :)
@fringestalin62639 жыл бұрын

VERY interesting and enjoyable, I look forward to many more in this series and wonder how on earth you will pack so much detail into larger routes like the South London Network! I know this route in TS very well, using it to teach myself scenario creation as it was short, simple and had the interesting features of 3rd rail and non electric lines, eventually releasing 3 scenarios on the Steam workshop for it using the Class 415 EPB stock.
@PTGRail9 жыл бұрын
simonmd2000 Thank you :) I've used this route as my 'trial' route for the route learning series and now the route guide series too. As for South London Network, I would break it down into more manageable chunks.. say one covering the South London Line, one covering the Chatham line and so on :)

PTGRail Honestly, its the sharpest sounding accent I have ever heard! I am from Scotland and I thought the Scottish accent was fantastic, but yours is very easy to understand, and very luxurious. Is that accent typical of people in your local area?
@PTGRail9 жыл бұрын
Andrew Bustard You really think so? Lol.. I love the Scottish accent.. it sounds cool :) Though I can't try and speak in a Scottish accent to save my life lol :p When I was younger I had a strong Lincolnshire accent which is much more Northern. I just chose to try and speak like this when I was a teen. I would say this accent is typical of some people who live in the south east, but I know many who sound quite different to me lol :)

The Train Simulator representation of the Island Line is only incorrect in a few details. If you would like to create a more accurate representation, I think I would switch to OpenBVE. A drawback with TS is that you can only create objects for it using proprietary software. However, with OpenBVE, you can create objects with any 3D art package such as 'Blender' (hard) or Sketchup (Easy). The train driver who uploads KZbin videos on the subject says he considers OpenBVE the more realistic simulator. The advantage of OpenBVE is all the objects for it are free, so no DLC to pay for! There is a bit of a learning curve setting it all up, but once you get the hang of it, things are a lot simpler than they are with Train Simulator.
