In this next route learning video we take a Class 57/0 on a railtour from Settle to Carlisle calling at Ribblehead, Appleby and Carlisle. I've tried to include information about important gradients, speed limits, braking points, landmarks and stations.
Apologies for any lag or stutter.

Such a shame that AP took down the 57 sound pack, heck all of their sound packs, apart from the 390, I wish I could get the 20 "chopper", 47, 57 sound packs! Great video PTG, loving the memorable content! 👍

I have always thought of the BR class 47 as the diesel equivalent of the ubiquitous black 5.

It's worth noting that the celebrated railway photographer Bishop Eric Treacy died at Appleby in 1978 awaiting "Evening Star" the very last steam locomotive to manufactured by BR (in 1960). Also the right spur just beyond the station connected to the former Eden Valley Railway, between Kirby Stephen and Clifton just south of Penrith. Appleby had two stations: East (now derelict,) and West, a few hundred yards apart! Further evidence of "railway mania": the stations at Kirkby Stephen were also very close to each other.

Synchronicity! Have just been watching that....Keep up the good work. Just remembered, speaking of heritage lines it would be good to see if the NYMR appears, especially Pickering thru to Whitby, containing as it does interesting features such as a steep incline. Good for diesel or steam. I think that this was one of the very first "railways" and railway tunnels in the World.

The undoubted highlight of this popular route to and from Carlisle towards Leeds. Various railtours have travelled the Settle & Carlisle throughout the ages right up to the present day.

I enjoy your route learning videos and use them to decide if I will buy a particular route. How are you using your mouse to control the trains without a HUD on the screen ? Do you have the route on a second screen , and are playing it from there ? Or is there some witchcraft at work , a secret know only to you. Could you share it with a tutorial ?
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 жыл бұрын
+Iann Blueberger Thanks, I'm glad that you enjoy these videos. I'm not using the mouse to control the train, I'm using the keyboard. Though if you wanted to, you can simply use the mouse on the cab controls themselves without needing to use the HUD at all. I find that cumbersome so prefer to use the keyboard as I've always had the policy of not using the HUD in any of my videos to provide a more realistic driving and viewing experience.

How much do u spend on dlc? How could I get it cheaper as I can't afford to pay the full price? Again great video
@PTGRail

I often buy DLC in the Steam sales. That's the best way to get cut price DLC. I've been building up my DLC collection over the last three and a half years, so the cost has been spread pretty well :)

PTGRail Indeed - I just spent a small fortune over the winter sales on Steam and to be honest I waited all year but the savings where huge and well worth the wait. Just Trains also had big discounts on their stuff too. Another great video. Thanks again

Thank you Jim. I'm slowly heading towards Scotland now.. so it won't be too long before I'm in your homeland! :) .. Haha I know what you mean, I spent a bit less than I planned as the new American route came out at the time.. it cost a bit more than other sale items but it helped to boost the profile of this channel :)

Am I right in thinking that the 57's have a GE power unit in place of the Sulzers fitted in the 47's?

I've been playing with the Class 57 on Train Sim. Is it just me or does this loco have a major lack of power in game. I was playing the mission Morning Containment, in which the train isn't very big (at least not compared to real-life trains pulled by 57's), and found that I needed to bring the throttle right up to a minimum of 75% just to get moving, given that, as far as I know, most freight trains move off at around 40% and it doesn't take long before they can throttle back and yet still be gaining speed. Then before making a stop at the first siding for uncoupling I slowed down ready to hit a 5mph limit when the train came to a complete stop and didn't have enough power to get moving again, in the end I gave up.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 9 жыл бұрын
Graeme Heddle I agree with you, the Class 57 does seem to be underpowered in Train Simulator. There is a scenario, I think it's possible that one where you just can't get the train moving again in the 5mph limit.

PTGRail I really do want to like this game more as it's on the whole a good driving simulator, better anyway than the Trainz franchise in that respect, but I've come across so many little things which ruin an otherwise very good game and I can't help but feel could be easily corrected if the development team at Train Sim were as committed as, say, SCS Software are with ETS 2.

UK Trains they don't have the copyright or rights or permission to use West Coast Railway company's logos, it's the same reason why you can't buy the official Train Simulator class 390 Pendolino or Class 220/221 in Virgin Trains livery and in the case of the Pendolino you end up having a very accurate train but with three wildly inaccurate liveries. The same reason why there are no First TranspennineExpress trains, why the class 150 and 156s don't have logos for Northern Rail, Anglia or ScotRail (national express) liveries. No Virgin Trains East Coast liveries. No logos on South West Trains class 444 or class 450 logos either. British TOCs like other companies across the U.K. are entitled to protect their logos, liveries and other intellectual property. Some will allow them to be reproduced, some will but will want licensing agreements (I.e. Paid handsomely) and some will not allow it whatsoever. This is why the logos on the class 57 and the coaches are a close look-alike and not actually of West Coast Railway Company.
