Sober is ALWAYS better! Thats one reason I haven't done any drugs or booze in ten years. great thing can happen when your high...but you can't count on it, are never sure of it, and usually can't repeat it. sober is cooler because your playing becomes much ,more cohesive and what you are playing 8 bars later usually still relates to what you played 8 bars earlier. Good question! J

Jason Ricci: Harmonica Legend, KZbin OG, and fashion pioneer! You were showing incredible promise long before I ever picked up a harp. I feel super lucky that you're willing to share all that with us, now.

amazing the aspect of genius that bursts through when Jason is actually doing a humble act of service in terms of breaking it down to teach others something that, to people outside the loop, is awfully darn esoteric and beyond comprehension. In 1966 I got to visit Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee in their rather fire-trap hotel room, when they had come to town (Los Angeles) to play a club. Terry was a hero of mine, and i was 16 years old, and I photographed them with a twin lens reflex medium format Yashica-A. Still have the negatives and proof sheets. It was an all time high. Hearing Mr. Jason Ricci play for the first time ever, many decades later, was absolutely equal in terms of heavenly qualities, and yet carried to a spaceship like yet totally gutsy other domaine. This here, breaking down the fox chase and rail road train thing, is just so amazing.

Regardless of your...um...guest instructor's interjections, I love to come back to this video every so often. My train rhythm is plenty solid, but you are always a great source for "coloring" approaches, enhancing the basic rhythm with a wonderful variety of sub-rhythms and mini-melodies. I've been at it for eleven years, and I'm still learning from material you put out before I started. Great stuff!
