Thanks to a water leak my basement looks like a disaster area.

IMHO, this version is a big improvement. Consider adding a passing siding/runaround track and a few under track coupler magnets (Bachmann item #78999) to help facilitate switching activities. I have these magnets installed at a few spurs on my switching layout and they work surprisingly well (with appropriate couplers). If you are considering expanding your N scale empire, take a good look at Kato Unitrack. High quality products with an excellent selection, including a double crossover, an electric turntable and its version of flexible track. There is even a conversion track piece for connecting Atlas N scale track. I used a paid version of AnyRail (after trying it out) to design my current switching layout. The software is free to try (limit of @50 sections of track) and it comes with a large track library, including Bachmann EZ track and Kato Unitrack.

Sadly I just dismantled the whole train table so that repairs to my basement. As for N scale, I would like to do more with it, just don't have space to do both.

@@VintageRoadRail Sorry to hear about the basement leak problem. Definitely get that taken care of before you build out the layout. My HO layout is in the basement and model railroad items are stored in covered Rubbermaid storage totes...just in case. Several of the storage totes fit under the benchwork, which saves space.

Great video! Love the expansion! The 8520 was actually an AC44C6CF. This was a failed DC to AC rebuild. This unit was the only one built and was sold to another railroad a couple of years back. The N scale BNSF is an SD60M in H1 paint . Love the bachmann EZ track for n scale. I have used the EZ track for both n and Ho scales. Bachmann makes it simple to build your own railroad. Keep the updates coming!

Yeah, I should have said it was a rebuilt Dash 9. lol Bummer that NS no longer has that loco, it has a very unique paint job.

@@VintageRoadRail You are fine! That was one of the most unique paint jobs NS did.

I would suggest that instead of thinking of a layout as one large table think of a series of small tables connected, almost like shelfs. If you think about a multitude of smaller tables you end up being able to do more with small and odd spaces. In my train room if I did a standard 4x8 it would have been all that I could fit. Instead I did multiple tables about 2 or 3 feet wide around the room. So in the end I actually ended up with about a 10x10 layout but with the center as the open area instead of with something like a 4x8 where the open area is around the sides

One of these days I would love to build a layout that goes around the room. You can do a lot in just a couple feet.

One idea is to use a hinge which would allow a 2 foot section to fold down when not in use. When in use if done right one would not be able to see the seem. Electrical wiring between the two sections could be hard wired underneath connecting the two sections.

Thats not a bad idea!. Thanks for watching.

Nice thing about the N acale track as it can double as narrow gauge.

How many trains are you going to have running at once eventually?
