That entire scene where the father lets himself fall off the train is so well-acted. The little girl isn't sobbing quietly nor crying "beautifully". It's "ugly crying": trashing, being held back by someone, almost screaming. Just how kids would react in real-life if their parents are taken suddenly from them. And that violin score kicking in as the father falls off is just the cherry on top for that scene.

I’d like to point something out - Gong Yoo talks to the daughter in informal Korean, whereas the daughter speaks very formally to her dad. Normally kids talk to their parents more casually and talk to their elders (like grandparents or older generations in general or strangers) formally. Usually if kids talk to their parents formally (especially at a young age), it can mean that they aren’t close and most likely have a dysfunctional or cold family dynamic. The fact that this happening both caused them to grow closer and ultimately part ways forever is so heartbreaking. :(

I hope not only me appreciated the heroism of the Homeless guy not just once, but twice. First, when he covered a cloth to the zombie's head who's attacking Gong Yoo's character, second when he sacrificed his life for the pregnant woman and the little girl. :(( One of my favorite characters in this masterpiece. They all deserve an Award for this ❤️

The announcement at 14:10 is actually a reflection of the media about the Sewol tragedy that happened back in 2014. They broadcast that same message for the students to stay still in the sinking ship, only for them to get drown. After the ferry had sunk, they even broadcast false news about having saved all the victims, but in fact 304 out of 476 passengers had passed away.

The old lady who died while staying behind to give time to the others to escape was the other old lady's older sister, not her friend. We can see throughout the movie how the older sister is always giving priority to her litle sister: peeling hard-boiled eggs, letting her sit first, etc. All this while knowing that in Korean society, priority and respect are given to boys and then the older sister. A concrete example: when eating out, with family, friends or colleagues, it's usually the youngest person present who distributes the plates and chopsticks, pours the drinks, etc. And it's usually the oldest who starts eating first. Knowing all of this highlights how caring she is towards her sister, peeling the egg herself and offering her younger sister to eat first, also letting her sit first when there are few seats before Su-An gives her seat up for her. I live in South Korea and I can tell you that Koreans will definitely let others know when they are older and expect a lot of respect, even making them a-holes sometimes. So yeah, this is a really caring older sister, and at the end, she sacrifices herself to make sure her little sister will be safe. Now we see in previous scenes (like the one with the egg) that the younger sister is kind of annoyed with her older sister, like she's bothering her. It's only when the older sister sacrifices herself that the younger one realizes her sister always put her first and she herself didn't stand up to the big group, which was in the end responsible for her sister's death (hence why she said "why did you work so hard:struggled living if it was to end like this?"). If they let the small group in directly, her sister would still be alive. Now of course she wants revenge on the big group that caused her sister's death, but not on the smaller group that rescued and protected her sister as long as they could. That's why she only opens the door when the small group is safe behind another door.

This is a great discussion at the end. The thing is if any of us ended up in a zombie apocalypse this is probably the most accurate scenario. Because while people would like to think they can stay calm and think clearly we are so easily panicked and even when you think you’re thinking clearly it’s not always the case. Also side note with the people closing the door on people. I think at that point it was obvious they weren’t zombies because like you said they turn so quickly so they could’ve opened the door at that point. I truly love how nuanced and relatable the characters are. Especially the father. I think it’s less a character development than it seems. He was selfish at the beginning but for the sake of his family. He overworked himself (and sure neglected his kid while doing so) but it was to give his child a better future. Which is such a relatable sentiment in many families. So he clearly cares about others even if it’s not altruistic. His decision to help others doesn’t come as much of a surprise in this case. Like you said he isn’t extremely selfish nor does he become extremely selfless. He’s in between where so many people are. And I think it does come across that there’s a whole spectrum of “evil” and “good” in this movie. Even the main antagonist is merely trying to survive and while we may frown upon his morals its also very human.

I've seen other Reactors being *devastated* by her performance. I remember one normally tough, tattooed woman who normally laughs her way through horrors etc having damn-near hysterics of crying near the end of the film, having to switch the film off and go away! The sequel, Pensinsula, has some fantastic abandoned/ruined cityscapes, but was otherwise a terrible, generic zombie film to avoid. This film is awesome though.

The protagonists sacrificing themselves to save others is much more of a trope in Korean movies than it is in Hollywood movies. I find it is often more satisfying than the trope of the hero who overcomes and survives against all the odds that you tend to get over here.

The thing I discuss with people sometimes is the scene where the older lady opens the door and lets the zombies in. I get both sides of the argument, because they say it was very selfish because the more survivors, the better. My point was that, while it is better having more people, her opening the door in the movie was very understandable. Because if you think about it, the survivors were basically responsible for her sister's death. If someone was responsible for a death of a family member of mine, and I had to be stuck in a room with them for who knows how long... I'd be rolling up my sleeves honestly. But once again, both sides of the argument are very reasonable

Train to Busan will be the one and only Zombie anything that I can say I will watch willingly. I’ve watched other Zombie movies but this one brings it all for me. What I mean by that is the attachment and ripping away of characters, the hope and disappointment, the character development, emotional turmoil are all there. Also this is the only Zombie movie that makes me cry every single time. There was a character that I absolutely hated, and one I absolutely loved. In most horror/thriller movies pregnant women and children are off limits, so I figured it would end with those two. But to start with a genuinely good group of people and no one survives brings a certain reality to it, that states; if there was a Zombie apocalypse, I would not stand a chance no matter what I did.

Many actors from Train to busan are well known : Gong Yoo who plays the father/main character is also in Squid game. I will never understand how the people in Car 15 didn't trust the group coming in. You've seen how fast people turn into zombies and not only did they call you beforehand saying they were coming, they fought off zombies for minutes while you locked them out. They would've turned into zombies long before they broke the glass and got in Car 15 lmao Edit: I understand what fear can do to you but you would think that with how much time passed between the phone call and the group finally getting into Car 15, people would realize that their logic was flawed lol

You guys should react to the prequel, 'Seoul Station.' It's basically the story about how the virus initially started spreading, during the late night/early morning that the father and daughter were on their way to the train. It's animated and really well done. :) ANOTHER RECOMMENDATION would be Kingdom on Netflix! It's a SK zombie series not a movie, but it's great.

Train to Busan scared me bc zombies that run?? Hell no. Nope. I would have died in 5 seconds... Kingdom on Netflix is another great korean zombie apocalypse you guys should consider! The series is a historical drama, but definitely interesting to watch. The plot, the twists, the costumes, the environment??? OMG i honestly wish i could experience that era but at the same time i don't bc they cut off people's heads TvT

This is the best zombie movie ever. I haven't found one in my entire life that is as good, the cast, the acting, even from the little girl was fantastic. And the Baby Daddy was the MVP of the movie. What extra sucks is that in South Korea, where Busan is located, they have very strict gun laws, so none of them had any sort of weapon other than melee weapons. so it's not like if there was a cop on the train they could have done anything because not even most cops are permitted to carry guns.

If you wanted a really suspenseful Korean zombie type movie then I recommend The Wailing. It came out a few years ago now but it’s so good, it’s got zombies, exorcism, police investigation, it’s a long movie but totally worth it in my opinion. Keep up the good work! You guys are doing great!

Seriously the best reactors out there. Your discussions at the end are always chef's kiss. First of all I'm really glad you guys are introduced to Korean content. I can tell ya Koreans are really great at making thriller and horror movies, their shows on the other hand are a whole rollercoaster ride. Also I don't even know what I have to say since you guys already got the whole point of the movie about humanity, panic and fear that blinds are judgement and morals. Non of them were truly bad people but the fear and horror blinds their sense and survival instinct takes turn over which can turn into selfishness. I know from my personal experience that in such situations no matter how compensation we are, most of us would panic and would just try to make our way out instead of looking for people around us. I remember my school getting fire alarm on and even the most ideal kids of our class panicked including teachers and started running down the hall. My friend just went still for a moment, I literally had to come back and dragged her with me to a safe place. Turned out it was false alarm but it did taught us to always remained alarmed for any situation. For some Korean content like this I'd really recommend Peninsula (sequel of Train to Busan), Alive, The tale of two sisters, Cinderella, Asylum, The Witch: Subversion (with the baseball player from this movie) and Parasite (with same baseball player). I'd like to recommend some kdramas too in case you would like to give them a try like Kingdom (zombie+GOT) Goblin (Fantasy; plus same ml as this movie) Sweet Home (zombie) Memories of Alhambra (virtual reality comes alive) Happiness (zombie)

One zombie movie I liked that seems to fly under the radar is Life After Beth w/ Aubrey Plaza. It's kind of a rom-com zombie movie and explores what might happen if people retained their identity after they came back as zombies.

Another thing is that the cars are segregated into different classes just like a plane is. You can tell from their chairs. So one end of the train and where they closed the door is most likely people who are richer. Yet another metaphor for privilege.

Have you ever gotten on a train? The difference is not only due to "social classes", rather that you pay according to how long you are going to stay on the train, that is, the longer the trip, the more comfortable the seats are since they may even need to sleep in them. 🤦

@@J.a.c.k_J.a.c.k yes but this was an express train meaning it only planned to stop at like 3 stations so chances are everyone on there was there for a long train ride. And I’ve been on trains, actually I’ve ridden the train from Seoul to Busan early in the morning and yes you can sleep but it’s not that long that everyone is sleeping. Even then, first and foremost it’s a rich people thing. Only those who have the money can seek the higher comforts of the more expensive seats.

@@kopaszh_pkoaszh_9527 Obviously if you pay more you will get a better service, but you will never see a sufficiently relevant difference in costs between economy class vs first class on a train ticket, not enough to determine a different social class, but rather who can value more comfort vs. duration of the trip.

@@J.a.c.k_J.a.c.k like you said there isn’t that much of a difference in service between economy and business classes on a train so there’s less reason for a regular person to buy the more expensive seat for just a little bit more comfort. However those that CAN afford the more expensive seat for that little bit more comfort will do so. As for the difference in cost between the two it’s sufficient enough for anyone who is budget conscious and those who think there isn’t much of a difference is likely more privileged than others.

My english isn't good enough for me to have confidence and talk about it, but I think this movie is one of the good ones x) WWZ has a few things that you guys actually talked about, and that Train to Busan doesn't have, it's very interesting how they do it and it's pretty cool to see how you guys think.
