What I personally love about this movie is that doesn't follow most of the classic Zombie movie tropes. People in this movie think. Sure there are those who panic or make wrong decisions but for the most part, characters think. Stuff like thr bag falling over or accidentally hitting something with the weapon are accidents that could happen to anyone. No one runs blindly like a hero into a pile of zombies or causes discord between the team just for pride or drama. I love that.

The idiot wife didn't stop to think before getting a bunch of soldiers killed because she just HAD to call her husband. She knows he's out there in hostile territory, and she very well could have gotten him killed too. Gerry is dumb too just for humoring the whole concept of calling each other.

yeah, the author of the book (and the movie staff too) must be someone who watched previous zombie movies carefully. they noticed the clichés were mostly stupid behaviour and they decided to deal with the situation as it should be dealt with. don't get me wrong, I kinda appreciate classic clichés like " *let's split up to check this possibly zombie-infested skyscraper* ", because it means jumpscares, cast deaths and savage action, but given humanity self-proclaimed itself the smartest species on the planet because driven by reason, we need characters who prove that in an apocalypse instead of acting as videogame characters or wannabe heroes. of course, something stupid here and there happens: humans aren't perfect, and the wife proved it😅

The sequel was cancelled in February 2019, Valentine's Day, 3 years ago, not because of the script, but because of the bad blood between director Mark Forster and Brad Pitt, whom wouldn't stop butting heads on the project. Pitt's friend, David Fincher, was tapped to direct World War Z, Part 2, hoping it would hit theaters in 2020. But due to the budget constraints, and the extensive location shooting, the sequel was cancelled.

I think the problem with the movie is its trying to be the book without using anything from the book. Now I don't mean the title. The book is a globetrotting story that covers everything from the beginning of the outbreak to the post war era. This movie tries to hit all the same beats in a 2 hour movie. It's too busy, it doesn't take its time with any aspect of the story. It's so rushed getting Brad Pitt to the next scene it never breathes. It should've been a trilogy, the outbreak, then the war, then the victory.

You don’t have to do it for your channel unless you want to do another book reaction but in your free time you should absolutely read the book or I’d even recommend the fully voice acted audio book. It’s quite different from the movie in that it’s mostly an anthology of different disconnected people before, during, and after the crisis. The movie creates the character for Pitt that linearly goes through some of the beats that were done by a variety of characters and stories in the book. I hope this movie gets revived as sequels or turned into a series as that sort of episodic format would be fitting of an adaptation to the book. There could still be recurring characters such as Brad Pitt globetrotting the world to map out the timeline events of the entire war against the zombies. Although I still enjoyed the movie, it became a bit too generic and there are so many events in the book that would be awesome on the big screen. Definitely recommend reading the book at some point!

In older zombie movies, zombies were more of a supernatural religious abomination than a scientific biological aberration. In Night of the Living Dead the origin of the zombies is that Hell was finally full and so now the dead just walk the earth. Interestingly zombie as an archetype at the time was more a metaphor for ideological evil hiding in plain sight among your neighbors, tapping into the red scare and other social/culture war fears. It’s fairly modern to overlay the zombie archetype onto biological disease and pandemics, and kind of creepy how easily it fits (like borrowing the spreading from bites from the vampire mythos-which itself is a relatively new addition to vampire lore-and adding a natural origin like rabies or even things like AIDs have been invoked in some stories)

While it's a great line, Hell being full isn't the reason for the zombies in NotLD. It's radiation from a space probe that exploded in the atmosphere.

The line about "Hell being full" is from Dawn of the Dead, not Night. It's also not confirmed canon - it's just speculation by one of the characters, who could easily be wrong. But the rest of your comment was spot on.

There's always a reason the zombies don't attack each other, that's universally their achilles heel. In this it's that somehow they detect we're ill, in others it's a smell or lack of a heartbeat or something. But you'll spot it as a common thread in everything. The theme is people don't attack their own tribe: that's what zombie movies are about, they exploit our inherent liberal surpressed xenophobia.

For me too the best zombie movie I have seen. One sentence that describes the movie for me "Shit is going down, the whole world is in this, can I survive?" The great action plus the vibe of the movie itself felt very real to me. I feel like Train to Busan is a localized version of World War Z and WWZ is more global that is why I enjoyed it more.

I really enjoyed this film although I'd recommend reading the book... its like a fictionalised history of a zombie outbreak told through interviews with survivors. Brad pitt's character Gerry Lane is the interviewer, a UN Investigator investigating the outbreak... a different beast entirely as a result. And the author also wrote the zombie survival guide which is quite cool, it's the reason they were using bicycles at the military base in South Korea, doesn't need fuel and pretty quiet and small, good transport for the apocalypse... one of many tips in there. Also in the credits Peter Capaldi was listed as 'WHO doctor', within 2 years he was playing Doctor Who... I love the funny coincidences in life. But anyhow great reaction as always guys! Keep it up

This movie was good but one thing Train to Busan has over this is character development. I found myself so detached to the wife and kids even by the end of the movie. With train to Busan, I cared about ALL the main characters. I cried for the homeless man, the dad, the husband of the pregnant lady, the grandmother, baseball boy and his girlfriend. WWZ was still great and so rewatchable but I didn’t connect with them. I only really cared about the Latino family in the apartment and their son that survived.

The movie is one of the best surprises Ive seen for a blockbuster, ans one of the best zombie movies ever made, but if you like it, you WILL LOVE THE BOOK! They made some slight references and nods to events of the book and the sequel was going to dig deeper on them because they left so many cool shit out of this but due to many production problems it has been never made, when it is a no brainer... But the world is crazy, Brad Pitt and the military woman were dope and the zombies were one of the scariest Ive seen.

Major cities in different countries have been retaken, but millions more of infected still live in Northern countries (Finland and Iceland iirc), the mountains, and in the bottom of the ocean. There is no singular MC in the book version, but rather different experiences from different characters. All of them explaining in the end of their stories how much the war affected them mentally and that they will never be the same again, with one of the characters pointing out that "he's been fighting for so long that he forgot about being kind and the feeling of peace". Theres probably more to it than that, but this is all i remember

"Kingdom" and "All of Us are Dead" are 2 Korean zombie series that came to my mind when you mentioned Korean zombie Netflix series. Out of the 2, i like Kingdom more since it's interesting to see zombies in like historical/ancient times. Also, it's a political thriller and many of the characters are cunning and crafty. "All of Us are Dead" is okay. It's mainly set in a school where students get trapped during an outbreak. It had thrilling moments but a lot of slow-paced scenes as well. And most of the characters are teenagers so i find a lot of them annoying and shallow, though most do become quite likeable near the end. Other zombie/zombie-like films I remember and enjoyed as popcorn movies: *English:* Overlord (2018), Planet Terror (2007), The Crazies (2010), Doom (2005), Cargo (2017), Cooties (2015) *Non-English:* REC (2007), #Alive (2020), Seoul Station (2016), Odd Family: Zombies on Sale (2019), One Cut of the Dead (2017)
