We have a mini aussie pup...and her focus is squirrel level, energy is definitely on the higher side, and she knows some commands yet ignores them. She is confident, affectionate, and freaking smart. She is easily bored. Tips on play/training for energetic/distracted puppies? I try to wear her out before training but it's like the gift that keeps on giving, I want her energy levels lol.

We recently adopted a now 5 month old GSD mix, wildly energetic. We’re her 6th home! after being adopted and returned by four different people plus the foster home. So she went thru god knows what and was a lunatic when we brought her home plus not being well house trained. She’s getting better and now house trained but still a handful. It would be great to see something about training a super energetic and smart puppy who’s been thru chaos in their young lives.

@@stephenjacobsen4616 I fostered 17 dogs in a year. You have to forget their past. Dogs don’t need to be babied because of past trauma. I think that’s what she meant. Treat the dog like a normal dog and help it deal with its issues. Patience, exercise, disciple and then affection goes a long way towards helping the dog deal with past issues. Believe me all fosters/rescues have issues. Most are given up due to unrealistic expectations or bad behavior that the owner has no clue how to deal with.

I just adopted a 8 week old A.Bulldog / Lab mix (almost 10 weeks now) and he is coming along I am working on "Stay" but he seems to barky and frustrated with that command. I've had some success but not really consistent. Anyone have any tips for how to overcome? I really like Joel's approach and I am doing leash training with my pup the same way and day one say good results, even with the neighbors coming to see him he was responsive and went into a sit when told, he only ever held it for 10-30 seconds since they excited him, but I was really happy with his progress.

It would also be great to see if there's anything you approach differently with a puppy from a large, powerful breed than one like Pickles, or at what age it's appropriate to start taking more of a hard line, no-nonsense approach. Pickles is ludicrously cute, btw!

Excellent! With Labrador retrievers, I use a lip-based whistle with treats instead of the human voice kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJOuhn9ne7afqtU With competition later, whistle is the primary method of communication at hundreds of meters away from the retriever.

How can i teach come with a 13 week old pup who doesnt care i have treats? He either looks at me blankly, ignores me completely, or runs the other way? Its even worse outside. Ive tried your go get method as its the only choice i have. We do it every time hes off leash (in or out) for weeks consistently and he still bolts the other way the moment you head his direction. Same thing with leave it. And if he knows hes about to get cornered and caught, he will do his very best to swallow it before i can grab him. This has wound us up in poop patrol many times praying for said item.

I’m a new puppy owner, how long should a puppy training session be?
@tonkatoy42072 жыл бұрын
Good tip on the come command to actually touch my hand. I was just giving the treat once he got to me as long as he didn't jump. And he's right about treat size. My pup is only 10 weeks so I crush kibble and he loves it. Basically he's getting kibble crumbs. One thing I'm confused over is "Wait" vs "Stay". My pup will not move with either command until I release him, but I thought you had to return to the dog for stay. I use wait before he can leave his crate or to start eating.
@IrvinBeast2 жыл бұрын
Do you think training a puppy is legit? In that puppies actually retain what you’re teaching them? Or would you be better off waiting till their 8 months to try to teach them commands ?

Had a question again about our new Golden Retriever/Lab mix pup, Raylan, we got him at 6 weeks of age and he is now 8 weeks old! He does this thing with his blanket or pillow, he’s humping it and it was funny at first but now it’s annoying and wondering if he should be stopped. What age should he be neutered! He hasn’t done it to Marley yet! Marley so far is training him well about nipping and correcting without causing the pup harm! Just wondering if the humping will be a problem later
@JC-sf2qm3 жыл бұрын
I had a Golden Retriever Service Dog Puppy that did this ... even after he was neutered. I am sorry now that I did not address it immediately because he would hump sofa pillows! Did you see some of Joel's videos on groups of dogs playing??? I would do the same. 1.Address the behavior immensely 2. Clap to distract or HEY. If the dog does not respond approach and have the dog sit while holding its collar. I hope I am not over stepping my bounds but I have deep regrets over this issue and it was very embarrassing at friend's homes.
