I completely agree with everything you said! I just got my first horse (about 4 months ago) he's a 5 year old ottb. When I went to try him out, he was a saint, and exactly what I was looking for in a first horse! When he came to the barn he's at now, he was (naturally) a bit confused on why his whole life had changed, but he was still just as gentle and kind (both on the ground and under saddle) as when I had tried him out! Unfortunately, about 3 weeks after he came to me, he was out in the pasture with the geldings for the first time... And they bullied him bad. I got there in time to break up the fight (he hasn't gone out with the same horses since, no worries!) but he was beaten up pretty bad. While he was healing and I couldn't ride him, I spent time with him just to get to know him and how he is. However, now that he's healed and I've started to work him again, he is NOT the horse I knew. He bolts every chance he gets - on the ground and under saddle - he's extremely skittish, and he seems to have a lot of built up anxiety, even though he hasn't seen those geldings since. This video helped me realize I actually have been asking the right question! Why is he suddenly behaving like this? Well, I'm guessing it's the mixture of mental trauma he got from when he was beat up (since he's fully healed now physically), and also the amount of time he didn't have to work (so now he doesn't want to). Now all that's really bothering me is what I can do as his owner to get him to start behaving better! I've been taking baby steps that have been working well... Yet today he bolted on me again... Now I'm really lost, and not quite sure what to do tomorrow when I see him again!

Asking the right question - this is what everything hangs on, whether the question is asked of the horse, the owner or of the trainer. People _rarely_ ask the horse the question they _think_ they are asking, and then they get frustrated or even angry when the horse gives them an answer they didn't want or didn't expect, or when the horse simply doesn't understand the question asked.

You don't have to keep correcting yourself by adding "horse women." lol I've found most real horse people are not easily offended by nonsense. Thank you for your videos, very instructive.

Thankyou, your videos are the best ! I think horses notice everything we do, but we learner trainers don't always notice ,or pay attention to what our horses are doing😊

I appreciate you emphasizing the why behind a behavioral issue...I don't like watching the unwanted behavior videos for entertainment...that is just nuts...I am seeking strategies to help me with my 2.

I really appreciate your style of YT channel. I want to learn the "why". I am restarting a 14 yr. old Morgan and I have realized that I must get him to walk out. I have worked too much on the stop and giving to the bit, causing him to get frustrated with me. And I do not know how to fix it. Watching you, I need to get him walking out. Once I get my Pivo set up I can do video lessons which would be very helpful. Thank you for what you do.

Exactly! Many times the horse problem is people created. Good example: every horse I rode was drifting or turning to the left when I wasn't asking for it. One horse? Maybe the horse, but all it's definitely me. Turns out I had a whacky pelvic tilt where I looked like I was straight in saddle, but more weight on right cheek, causing my left leg to open more. Horses were doing what I asked lol. Fixed by chiropractor in 5 minutes. Horses aren't the only ones that need the chiro occasionally 😂

I had a mare that would go out on a trail with another horse and then suddenly decide she wanted to be with other horses when saw in a pasture we happened to ride past. I never did know why she did that.

Why does my horse stay focused on another horse while I ride him? Ears forward, eye looking after other horses in the pasture while being ridden.

Exactly. I’ve learned this over the most recent years. What am I doing to cause this or how can I be more effective so they know that is the wrong answer to my question or request.
