What sage says: oh I did rubbish etc. What sage does: gets on the podium!!!!!

Sage is just incredible... Athlete at this top level still manages to find time to do these videos multiple times a week, shares content with us for free, training, nutrition and other tips... all for free and willingly :) That's just worth admiring whether one agrees to his methods or not! No other pro runner even thinks about KZbin channel and sharing his wisdom with the less trained colleagues of the sport :) Mr. Walmsley certainly doesn't :/ I hope that UTMB's gold will end up in Sage's or Killian's hands as they are real ambassadors of the trail running and concerned about running and trails more than winning a competition... As the history proves overtraining is good at the beggining and may seem like a good method as it gives a boost at the start of a carreer but most runners with extermely high mileage/week hit a wall after a few seasons of competition and they are out of the pro carrer for good... Walmsley may be ITRA's 1st but not for long if he will not take a break and change training methods, that's for sure. Sage on the other hand trains smart and has bright future... European runners still have the edge though, so yeah, Killian is still an enormous beast which he will prove at 2017 UTMB... I think that the battle will be fought between Killian, some other or a couple of EU runners and Sage Canaday/maybe Tim T. at the end of the race... Jim will battle Killian for approx. 80-100km and then either bonk or loose the lead to 5-6th place... Not that I have sth against Jim... I even wish him course record although it is just highly unlike :P

He makes money from showing his sponsored gear on his channel. That's why they sponsor him, because of his social media reach. He has even made a video to explain this,

Doesn't change the fact that he' sharing great amount of knowledge for free... Other guys are sponsored too and don't :/ And You can take that he's one of the top trail runners in the world... just like other guys too :P

Speedgoat is a totally different animal than UTMB! You got this! Please make a video about your blood results - would be interesting to know what are you looking at in those before this kind of race.
@timantrobus62757 жыл бұрын
Hey Sage - thanks for sharing another insightful & frankly really honest video. If a tired Sage can podium alongside Tollefson & Walmsley at the top of their game then just think what a rested & smartly tapered Sage is going to unleash at UTMB. I'm running CCC this year & have been drawing a lot of inspiration from your training videos & I'm pretty sure if you bring that same relaxed & grounded approach to the race you'll crush it in Chamonix !

How is it legal for someone to impersonate a professional athlete and use their name and photo to create a KZbin channel? Obviously that's not the real Jim W.

Is 50% undertrained better than 10% undertrained then?

Yeah, and 100% under-trained is better than 50%. Really best way to train for a race is to not run at all. Happy racing.

Congrats! Good luck @ utmb. Solid recap & been waiting all week for this report. Been using all your advice to train and won my 1st 100k this weekend in the extreme heat in Mississippi. Keep the advice coming. Headed in run mount elbert and take up my wife & dogs after seeing your Elbert videos on my next CO trip in a month to prepare for my 1st 100m in Sept. Seeing those moose are awesome, I've seen a bunch while running up in the rockies b4. Also, great interview with with Nick Simmons, as a 800m runner I've been a Nick Simmons fan for a long time and will try some run gum after seeing that video.

You're the professional, I am not. Ive paid for your 50m / 100k plan. Something tells me ramping up for UTMB in the last 30 days before the race, is a bad move. Keep your intensity high, but slowly taper off and REST. Thats what you would tell your athletes that you coach, someones gotta keep you accountable and tell you the same. Ive been a fan of yours from the Hansons Brothers days. Keep killin it Sage!

Sage, I appreciate your dedication, transparency, and knowledge of training theories. But, I think you've recently been pulled into this trend of young runners taking off blazing fast with the intent of breaking records or blowing up. Personally, I enjoy seeing the veterans or steadier runners pull ahead at the end of long races. I think that could be you at UTMB! Basically, run your race. We all say it, but so often emotions get in the way.

There is actually 3 dead pixels now. lol Center, top right and bottom left. Its all good tho, it don't bother me. Well done Sage on speedgoat! Keep it up, best of luck for UTMB!

Hey brother, again, I admire your humility but i don't think I've ever heard you mention how good you are. You mention all of your mistakes or what not but you're an incredible athlete and it's okay to share with us what you do right too. But moving on, when you talk about coming from flat track and road running, how much of the road running involved hills? I know road hills don't compare to mountain hills but I'm just wondering. Thanks.
@swest1717 жыл бұрын
You didn't mess it up. Speedgoat was simply a training run and you got third place in a very fast field, considering the winner broke your record. I say you did amazing considering all the UTMB training. If you just keep training with a focus for UTMB you can win there or place. But what do i know...
@timothydearden7 жыл бұрын
Sage, I would caution you about running too much in these next 4 weeks. I am no coach, but I have seen a pattern with over training for your races in your more recent videos (I know your goal has been UTMB, but just a caution). I think it is better to be well rested (and maybe even slightly under trained), than over trained with tiered legs going into UTMB. Thanks for making these vids! Will be rooting for you at UTMB!

In 2014 he was just getting into mountain running and also took the first climb too hard and blew up. So his 6:51 to 5:04 improvement isn't really a representation of where he was as a runner back then versus now.
@willsessions24747 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I bonked bigger than shit in my first half marathon thinking I could push through miles 7-10 in a 20 mph headwind. Two weeks later I ran 13.5 miles in training and blew my half marathon time away. Three years is a long time to improve, especially for a guy with his dedication and natural ability...and testosterone, LOL.
