I love the camaraderie the running community seems to inspire. Racers, filmmakers, supporters, runners are really some of the most supportive people I have encountered

Little things that make people tick: your mom saying “go sage” is one of the most beautiful things I’ve heard on the internet. You can just hear the enthusiasm and love in her voice, it’s so genuine. You’re very lucky to have such a great support group. I think that’s a very underrated and little talked about aspect of these longer races; those boosts are super important. Doubt you’ll see this bc it’s an older video but maybe an idea for a future video, great job!

Glad to see you pull out the win - 2016 is in the past! Did you notice that Dakota swapped out his entire pre-packed vest, essentially skipping the aid stations? Having 2-3 pre-packed should eliminate the under-gel issues and cut down on transition time. Enjoy your downtime, looking forward to seeing how your year shakes out!

Dakota clearly had the best strategy. Having multiple vests prepped and just switching the whole vest. very clever.

4:38 that is some NICE filming! At first I thought it was someone riding in a bicycle, but was like, nawh that path is too narrow. So it must have been a drone!

Crazy stuff!!!... I never understood how is possible to run with so brutal climbing. I love running in forest tracks but I hate hills, so imagine mountains... Congratulations!
@Patrik34as27 жыл бұрын
changing the whole vest seems like a nice time saver at aid stations
@reedbreuer99477 жыл бұрын
You mentioned speeding up your transitions, have you considered using Dakota's strategy of just replacing your pack? I know the pack is a bit of extra weight but you wouldn't have to worry about forgetting anything if you made the packs yourself pre-race. issue would be that if you needed to make a change it would be harder.
@tomvandeplassche7 жыл бұрын
In UTMB there is a lot of mandatory equipment which you need to have at every moment (like rain jackets, long pants, security equipment etc.) so that would mean that there you would need to have that in every pack.
@reedbreuer99477 жыл бұрын
Yeah I didn't mean for UTMB specifically, just for other mid-d races like 50mi where wearing a pack is optional
@tomvandeplassche7 жыл бұрын
Ah okay my bad. I thought since this series is training for UTMB you meant it for that.

That was fun to watch. I'm making a list of takeaways I see in the videos like your pit stops and Dakota just throwing down the used vest and grabbing the refilled one at the aid station never stopping. I would think that stopping for a couple minutes to see your crew and catch your breath would be very helpful to recover your body a little and possibly your mind a lot?

18oz Handheld(minus gels) = 1.2lbs.. if I was running a race I wouldn't want to do it with a 1.2lb weight in my hand. I think its time for a VaporSage vest! Congrats on the win!
@tryhardpker7 жыл бұрын
Austin Shields they don't need vests for these shorter races that have loads of aidstations... id say it's not worth the discomfort
@snazzycracker27 жыл бұрын
It clearly works for Dakota, comes in minutes behind and leaves ahead by the looks of it. The vest aren't uncomfortable either. 50 is a short race?
