this is a great, structured approach that experienced players could devise for one another (and new players). and it's stuff like this that makes me want improved training mode features that would allow an experience player devise these drills for less experiences ones imagine being able to download this drill straight from daigo, with training mode automatically setting up the recordings, randomizing them, hiding which one is being used, and just being able to start without moving through the menu. now imagine having a whole list of drills you can just select and do, kinda like the missions in Guilty Gear it would be so great, and would be an amazing tool to teach both experienced players looking for the next challenge and the newest of the new players

Core a gaming's video explains that if something is reflexive, you don't have to spend as much mental energy on the task, so training yourself to instinctively punish these neutral options could theoretically help your brain focus on other things like looking for your/the opponent's habits. I think daigo's way of training helps with this a lot.

This is why musicians practice scales and such. It's not that you ever want to play a scale during a song, but you don't want to have to think about how to play notes from a scale while playing, it should be so automatic that you are just playing what you want, within that scale. And outside of it when appropriate. Hard to explain, but the idea is the same as you are talking about. Making things automatic rather than intentional so that your intentions can be used on more important things.

@@no_nameyouknow That's what I experienced when I used to practice singing :), as a beginner I would use a song as a reference to remember certain scales, but my friend told me I must "install" the scales in my brain instead of taking time remembering them.

@@no_nameyouknow Yes, though feel like chords and arpeggios are a bigger help, especially when it comes to popular music, music don't to follow scale fingerings much, though they help with adjusting to different keys and general dexterity. But yeah, technique is very important.

13:40 everyone always forgets to add input lag lol So in reality you only have 6+3+16=25 25-8 = 17 17-4.41 (average input lag) = 12.6f to react. That's 210ms and decently above average That's why Daigo started playing on PC in the first place. So he could practice reaction like this consistently.

I think we've all done drills in training mode. But I think the difference is that if you want to be really good you have to practice every day. Like practicing every few months when you feel like like it, isn't going to get you there. This really is a measure of discipline. You have to be obsessed to get really great at something.

I realize this is a video that is for entertainment purposes as much as it is informative, but I think you're a little hard on yourself here. This is definitely something where you're not going to see your progress in the first session. Like practicing a difficult section in a piece of music(though music doesn't change randomly to throw you off). I think the moments where you started to understand what you could reasonably react to and train for were the real meat and potatoes of the video here. Good stuff.

I know you can do it, Brian. Just start with the individual punishes first. Apply a time, when you stop practicing (30min or up to an 1h) or else it might feel to much at first. Go with 10 or 15 tries and slowly increase each time you practice and take breaks. It's progressive overload, right. It's what I once heard from one of your vids. Don't forget to do the practice session as early as you can to still have a fresh mind and a high attention capacity. If possible without chat, but that's up to you. I think, as with most routines, you start to see early improvements about 4 weeks in. So don't be shortsighted and think about the bigger picture. Best of luck. You can be like Daigo, Brian. Don't give up.

"Practice with a purpose." It applies to pretty much any game you want to get better at. Hence why you see major league baseball guys still doing simple fielding drills and batting practice. NBA players shooting free throws in the training gym. Whatever you can break down to a minimal element, isolate to that minimal degree and gain that little edge. You don't need to win a lot of little interactions in a game like SFV to see big moves in your match win %. One extra "scramble" that leads into favorable setup is a big advantage.

I was trying to follow along the video and did the exercise as you did, and it helped if I broke down the reaction between her cMK and vskill into two reactions instead of one. So when she landed I first looked for cMK then after that didn't happen I looked for vskill. Maybe that'd help? But to be fair I'm probably making too many assumptions since she's set to only do one of those two options

I find it pretty disheartening that not more people do this regularly. I come from the land of tekken and I do these practices all the time and I feel my punishment is pretty damn good because of it. Record a bunch of moves for the cpu to random cycle through and just practice my punishes. Sometimes I also mix up safe or even plus on block moves to train myself to block instead of mash against. It seems SO obvious to me that I was shocked to find out that most people don't do this. Every time someone on a forum is like "boohoo I can't punish anything" and every time I find out they've never done those drills and I'm pretty sure even though I explain how valuable they are they wont do them. I even get people that argue that this type of practice is useless and you only learn from playing real matches which is absolutely not true. :/

A training session where you perform poorly is really disheartening. First of all, there is no definite proof that you can do it at all so the feeling that you might be wasting your time instead of actually improving by some other means is hard to deal with. Not only that, even if you accept that you will improve as a result of said training, it is also possible that there are much better, faster, less frustrating ways to improve.
