I second Bella. It’s way way easier to teach sign commands to dogs than verbal commands. Downside is in order to get the command the dog needs to be looking at you.

I live in the city in Alaska and one of my biggest problems is my tiny dog wanting to chase and bark at moose. It's great to see another dog trained around them, I'll have to give it a try. It's fun to see the Alaska videos too, I've never seen anyone throw themselves on a snow bank haha. I have some moose tips for you! Normally if you leave them alone they'll leave you alone. It was abnormal when that moose charged that man. I suspect those people probably did something to spook the moose. They're pretty skittish. You usually can pass them if you walk by quietly and quickly. So if you have a barking dog you of course want to immediately turn around and walk away. Otherwise as long as you're not too close. I'd say at least 10 feet of space to walk by quickly and quietly and you'll be okay. Some people make the mistake of hanging out to watch the moose while standing way too close which kinda looks like what the guy in the road was doing. Also you NEVER want to try to scare a moose away or aggravate it in anyway. That's like the number one thing you don't do. I've never seen anyone carry bear spray in the winter. I think you're safe on roads without it until spring. Although it's great to see newcomers take precautions It's unfortunately not uncommon for tourists to come to Alaska and get themselves in trouble. Usually it's getting lost in the vast wilderness of Alaska and not making it back. Most Alaskans myself included never go off trail. Unless you have the right skills and navigation equipment. Most people do not. At least not in the city.

Most people are scared of spiders or snakes, I’m deathly afraid of moose even though I’ve never seen one. And this is coming from someone who lives in Australia, where pretty much everything can kill you 😂
@kellil3845
@kellil3845 3 жыл бұрын
Moose are just like big skittish cows. You get used to them but it can be stressful sometimes if you have a dog. Moose come into the city during wintertime looking for food and take naps in your backyard. Which is usually neat, when I was a kid we'd throw raw lettuce and carrots to the moose from inside the house. After we got dogs we had a couple close calls because we didn't see the moose sleeping in the corner of the yard at night and let the dogs out. Of course the dogs barked at the moose and got charged but it missed so they were ok. Most people know enough not to make noise around a moose or aggravate it. We leave them alone and they leave us alone. The moose is like our city mascot in Anchorage. Most residents have a healthy respect for moose and don't mind em. Oh and springtime is the one time of year female moose get really defensive because they're protecting their calves. But everybody knows that here and is extra cautious around baby moose because the mother is usually very close. We stay far far away and everything works out ok.

I was born and raised in Alaska so I thought I’d share a few things that might make things a little easier on you! 1. Practice driving on ice and purposely (but safely!) losing control in a large empty parking lot. Trooper friend of the family recommended it and works amazing to gain those important skills in regaining control on slick roads. 2. Bears usually start waking up March-ish. So, right now you’ll be just fine from them. 3. The other people are right on mama moose being super dangerous. If you see one moose immediately look around to make sure there’s no young nearby. But usually if you give them space you’ll be ok. 4. When on ice, if you don’t have crampons, practice the shuffle. Pretend you have ice skates on and shuffle around till your off the slick part and it will help. 5. Check out Flattop for hiking when the snow melts. I think you guys will love it! It’s a very popular hiking spot so there’s lots of people and not a lot of big game that comes around that trail. And it’s gorgeous!! Local secret: when you drive up Upper Huffman to get there you’ll notice a part where the road dips down. If you turn around your car there so it’s pointing back towards the city, put it in neutral and be patient for about 30 to 45 seconds your car will be pulled up and over the hill. Some people say it’s an optical illusion, others say magnetics. Either way, it’s cool! Love your videos!

Sammerpanther I've seen a rant video here by a trainer who used zoomed in clips of Zak's (his head was hidden) and said so many awful things about him. But that guy uses shock collars to get his 'amazing' results, and his criticisms were really aggressive and not backed up by actual counter-arguments, just basically 'I do it better'. And he chose clips I had already seen, where Zak is clearly showing the issue that needs addressing with an untrained dog - so of course it looks like a messy situation with an untrained dog?

Dear Zack ... I love your channel, it really helps raise a dog. We have a King charles spaniel puppy from 3 months of age who has been with us for 4 weeks. For now, everything is going well with socialization. But we have a problem with urinating and pooping. We don't know if that's why she's still a puppy or not, but before going to bed she does everything in the yard, I get up around 03.30am to do the urination outside (and do it neatly), but when I get up around 6.30am she urinates in front of the door almost every morning . Are my expectations too fast to learn to wait, is the problem that we don’t keep her in the crate overnight or is it all just a puppy? I would appreciate any response. Greetings from Croatia and just keep it up. Greeting

Although, I think I might still attempt to teach her switch as a command instead of doing what I have been doing which is to use a leash to lead her from side to side. Works fine most of the time, but still, would be nice to have my dog do it on her own.

Love it! Alaska is beautiful. Can you do a video about how to keep your dog from jumping up on the counter and stealing food? We have a golden retriever who is 4 years old and she never understands the consequence we give her - putting her in her crate. Help!!

Then give more meaningful consequences. The dog decides what's aversive to him or not, what's rewarding or not. He's self reinforcing his behavior by counter surfing and your punishment doesn't phase him. You should try other type of punishments such as a pet corrector, a squirt bottle (if water is actually aversive to him), or you can also put him on a leash inside the house, with a prong collar the correction would be more more meaningful, if he decides to counter surf while on leash, you pop the leash and tells him a stern "No".

Now this is the content I’ve been looking for! As a lifelong Alaskan, I worry about my dog and moose interactions. I’d love to meet you, Bree, and Intertia around Anchorage sometime!

Could u make a video on which chews you use? It's really confusing because some people say e.g. bones are good and some people disagree cause dogs can break their teeth. I have a teething puppy and it would be nice to have an opinion.

Super fun video, awesome to see how far she's come! I pick up my puppy in a few weeks and I'm going back and rewatching inertia's journey from the beginning.

I love this guy! He is such a realist and tells/shows you the truth about dog training! It takes time and repeat! repeat! repeat! Its so real I can watch him forever. I love that he is a trainer and his dog has behaviour issues and he has had her since the beginning. Rescue dogs with behaviour problems get such a bad rap. This shows that they can develop with all Dogs!

We love your videos! Our puppy is learning quickly using your training ideas. Could you train Inertia to talk to you using an interactive sound panel?

Even though you have been the one training Inertia, will she still take commands from someone else ( like Bree)? For example if Bree was walking her and she asked her to switch sides would Inertia listen?

Oh my god inertia is doing Soo good!! That stay at the tops of the steps was amazing! It was cute how she slid a few inches. She truly tried to stop herself. Maybe put a little mat there to help her with grip at the stair case. Just so she doesn't go sliding down on accident? Just a thought.

Videos about Inertia is my total favorite! Probably because she has a similar personality to our dog and they are the same age. Alaska is totally beautiful! Looks very similar to Russia lol (that's where we are from)
