I've been subscribed all these years and didn't know you were a Marine. Definite inspiration seeing the progression throughout the years and how you went from chicken legs to tree trunks. This video made me feel better knowing that I can build up my awfully skinny no calf legs to actually looking good in a pair of shorts.

Best channel on youtube. This autmn i bought some weights, started 5x5 in my attic and this was one of the best decisions in my life. Earlier i spent some time in gyms but never liked atmosphere there and i didn't know much about powerlifting i thought everyone was body builder which was kind of boring for me. Now i'm just waiting till trainig day. Keep up the good work!

Deployment to Japan made me appreciate lifting and having a place to have fun without being in a squad bay. So cool! Im proud of you Alan, about the issue in comercial gyms, this happens a lot here in Brazil, I suffer with this situation every single week. Personal Trainers be like, "dont push too hard, this is not a crossfit gym" (here we dont have yet strongman gyms, but, since 2014 when I started watching your videos, I realized that was gonna be my lifestyle for now on so.... In brazil or you go to Crossfit super expensive or you go to comercial gym, cheaper but, the personals trainers dont understand your goals) they got all mad just because I squat looking down, "HEY ! DONT LOOK DOWN WHILE SQUATING, U BACK NEED TO BE STRAIGHT, THATS WRONG, BLA BLA BLA"... anyway... I feel you when you said that comercial gym got all mad with strongman workouts! Keep the hard work, maybe one day I will make your guys a visit at Sacramento, work out, learn a ton of stuff and train UNTAMED ! :D˜

Hey Alan, I'm a big fan. I really really hope that you respond to my question because I'm so frustrated that I've been deciding to quit the gym all together. I'm 5'9', 20 years old. After all my research I'd put myself into the higher end of the "Skinny Fat" category. I have belly, lower back, love handles which are quite visible only when I'm shirtless, not before. I have average amounts of muscle mass and have been hitting the gym for 4-5 months, on and off. What program should I follow? How much time must I spend in the gym? What should be my macro breakdown? How many calories should I consume? That is probably too many questions at once. If you offer paid consulting, I'm willing to consider. Thanks!
