Automotive technicians are constantly adapting and learning about new vehicle technologies and systems. As electric vehicles go mainstream, vehicle owners are finding that not all service repair centres are capable or equipped to service those EVs.
This episode explores some of that specialized training and examines the education, safety, service and maintenance needed by technicians entering the field.
We are very pleased to welcome back David Giles to the webinar. David has decades of experience in the transportation industry, and is certified in education and EV related trades. He is known as an educator, technician, innovator, entrepreneur, and a leader in electric transportation.
As the current CEO and owner of PoweredEV Ltd, he helps deliver cutting edge resources to help improve skills in multiple trades. Dave also serves as an EV education specialist for Consulab.

I love this topic, such a gap that needs to be filled by younger generations... as a DIY backyard mechanic as well as an IT professional in my career path, I'm really fascinated by the technology that powers these vehicles. I've experienced this so called "I think I know more about EV's than my "ev technician"" before... and it's frustrating, I've had several bad experiences from 3 separate nissan dealerships due to this... those who know, know... really hope this improves as I feel the lack of proficiency in the ev tech world is a critical element of fear and doubt inhibiting EV adoption.

@46:35 I am a student at St. Clair in Windsor Ontario, in the new EV program. We are learning both mechanics of an ICE vehicle and all forms of EV (EV HEV HPEV). Our program offers apprenticeship after year 1 and will have the knowledge to complete the SAE exam. Our second year furthers our knowledge on battery systems and EV powertrains etc. Upon graduation we receive a bachelors degree titled Electric Drive Vehicle Technician. I am assuming after graduation and the 7500hrs of apprenticeship, we are able to acquire the red seal certification.
