You are amazing and so are your dogs

Hi Micky, Not sure about that, but if you put in the time and take the dogs personality into account in the way that you train it, good results in their work will come sooner or later.

Do you ever use shock collars during training? Getting my first GSP next week.
@AyteeGSPs3 жыл бұрын
Never. I wouldn't consider one as an option if you are getting a puppy.

Enjoy your training and take time to condition commands. You will both improve and get better by learning on the job :)

I have a GSP 9 months. very much like Carrot. I have let if off the lead to run free as a pup how can I get it staying by my side again?
@AyteeGSPs2 жыл бұрын
Hi Loki, Running free is something all pups should be allowed to do - but in a supervised way and given as a reward. The problem comes if your pup has been allowed freedom without any supervision and not given lead training or recall training which are some of the are basic building blocks of more advanced training. Can I suggest that you join a starter class for obedience to help establish these lessons. We do have online training manuals and no 1/2 will cover these important stages of training. www.aytee.co.uk/training

@@AyteeGSPs Thanks for the reply! I have looked at the training manuals you mentioned on the site. Is 9 months ok to start with level one? He does respond to sit, come and a whistle (one long pip) for return.

@@lokimarley8514 Hi Loki........it sounds as if Loki needs a greater understanding of off lead control which comes from a mixture of heel/recall and a general acceptance that he doesnt do anything unless you give him permission. Level 1/2 are really necessary to ensure you make the right start, which is the base for everything and Level 3 takes you forward particularly helping with discipline when things are not going so well. You could go straight to 3 but you will miss the basic building blocks that get you there. Many dogs remain very immature at Loki's age - in many ways he will still be a puppy! Good Luck, if you do go ahead I can join you to our private fb page where tips and advice are shared amongst other owners working on our training manuals. Enjoy your dogs !

I see these hunting types still dock the tails of these pointers. Animal cruelty. They should be prosecuted. No need to shorten tail other than aesthetics.😥
@AyteeGSPs4 жыл бұрын
This is an HPR dog, not simply a pointing dog and as such it regularly flushes and hunts its birds in cover as part of its work. If it were left with a full tail the injury caused through work would be painful and unacceptable, that would be a cruelty. For this reason alone they are docked. Legally in the UK, only working HPR’s should be docked and I completely agree that any HPR bred for pet should not be docked. As a breeder, all my dogs are sold to working homes but is surprising how many people will try to obtain one when they simply want a pet, I always point out this flawed approach and they are not successful.
