Stonnie, you have great Labrador training videos! In regard to this video, you said you didn't want to do this to much. what's your reasoning behind that? Over working the dog? Just curious of your time line for a training session like this. Thanks!

Great video! 1 question, For each video, do we work on it with our dog for a week and go to the next video or something else?

Hi, love your video! I've just adopted a 6yr old retriever. This is my first dog. She's really calm, but has no interest in fetch anything. Do you think she could be taught fetching now?

That looks awfully a lot like a Swedish M59 army jacket! It's been discontinued since 1990 and we never had much of an army to kit out to begin with, so there can't be that many of them around. How on earth did it find its way to the US? I'm actually a little bit envious.... 😊

HI Stonnie, Thank you for ALL your video recordings. They are amazing and helped my black Field Lab getting into her training sessions right from the start of 8 weeks old. She even has been retrieving since then. Only I have a VERY hard time with her to drop the bumper and she will always bring it back but wants me to play tug a war or will not drop the bumper… I NEVER play tugs with her but she still will not drop it and only a few times and whenever she is ready or by chance I got it from her…. any suggestions to get my (now 12 week old) pup to drop the retriever bumper so I can throw it again more often in-between intervals? Any suggestions would be so appreciated. Thanks for your time Stonnie. I look forward to keep training with your vid sessions and watch my amazing smart puppy grow! debbie ;-)

Maybe you could work on "trade ups" in low stimulation environments and use two bumpers when playing fetch in high stimulation environments...

Stonnie, I have a 12 week old lab pup whose done well with everything BUT retrieving or fetching. He gets excited and goes to get the bumper, but at throw 3 or 4 he gets distracted half way to the bumper and goes to chew on a stick or tries to take a tug of war rope or a ball from our shitz tsu or dauschund, or to play with them in general. Would this drill in the video be enough each week to help build that desire to retrieve/ fetch? Should I be playing fetch with him separately from other dogs? Anything helps, thanks for the videos Stonnie!

Hey awesome video! I have a 11 week old lab named Lily! She's doing really well with her commands and fetching is going ok.! Trying to teach her to stay when I throw it then fetch on command, which works sometimes, any thoughts on improving? She also gets caught up in flowers and long grass and tries to eat it all the time. Any reason for that? And lastly, perhaps the not important she nips a lot. I get she's teething and she's young, but she'll go full on attack mode biting everything and she'll keep coming at you when you try to stop it, she won't listen during these attacks and she won't want to do anything except run and jump at you try to bite. And it happens all the time, even when we're just sitting and I'm trying to just gently pet her. how do I calm and stop her? Thanks!

Lj Bara I know this comment is from 8 months ago, but has your puppy improved on not eating grass and flowers? I'm having the same problem with my 10 month old lab/Rottweiler mix. She eats grass, and then it's not pretty later on when her stomach decides it doesn't like it!

Hi Stonnie, We have a 3 mnd old male retriever, when practicing to fetch he tends to get distracted really easily. What are got ways to keep his focus during practice?
@StonnieDennis
@StonnieDennis 9 жыл бұрын
Melvin SamSin He's just a baby so keep your sessions short and sweet. Practice in a calm place, so you guys aren't competing with a lot of environmental stimulation. Try doing more sessions, with less repetitions per session.

Hey Stonnie, Thank you for the tip, will definitely try that! P.s. really helpful videos helped really well with the sit, stand and down routine
@StonnieDennis

Melvin SamSin Another useful trick is to use two dummies. Toss the first dummy, then when he picks it up, get real excited and call him, while presenting the second dummy. It won't take long for him to realize that the faster he brings the first one back, the quicker you will throw the second one...

I notice after a while, the food rewards become less. Does the dog notice this much and start to waiver in his obedience or does patting and attention start to replace?
@StonnieDennis
@StonnieDennis 7 жыл бұрын
GhostBusterTrace That's very insightful. Yes, if done properly, the food work portion of your training only takes a few weeks.

It teaches them to be ready for the next task, whatever it might be, and focus on you, who is leading them. Each throw is a reward for staying calm, just like each treat is a reward for doing something, like waiting or being ready for a leash.
