Trains at Darlington - 02/09/2021

Filmed on 02/09/2021. As the summer season comes to an end and the cooler weather moving in, it is time for a day of rest bite as we venture once again to the North East. Starting of with the last station in North Yorkshire before the gateway to the North East and where the railways all began. Its a welcome back to Darlington (Season 8 Episode 27)
A station which has 4 platforms only but also with by pass lines which misses Darlington station and continues along the East Coast Mainline. No freight sadly but quite a few changes compared to my last visit to this station in 2019. LNER now operates nothing but Azuma class 800/801 units which now operates beyond York to North East and Scotland. Its out with the class 142 Pacer buses and in with their replacements: Northern's Perkins 158's and a few Newton Heath based class 156's which are now operating services in the North East.
During a hour and 20 minutes trainspotting, this is the variety that is seen:
LNER Class 800 & 801
Cross Country Class 220 Voyager
Cross Country Class 221 Super Voyager
Transpennine Express Class 802 Nova 1
Northern Class 156
Northern Class 158

I full heartly agree with you, Darlington is an unique railway station but especially overlooking the fast lines as well :-)

Great video Ricky as I have lived in Darlington all my life i know Darlington station well and it's got great history plus the non stop mainlines behind the station too good venue for watching trains and also it is not the only railway station in Darlington there is Darlington North Road station a single line bi derectional un manned halt for the Bishop Auckland and saltburn and shildon branch too thats got even more history as the first railway station in Darlington 😊

Yeah, there is a lot of history of Darlington station especially the lines linking to some remote villages in the early days of the railway until we all know the 'good doctor' made big changes. I travelled to Bishop Auckland once and noticed some heritage think like waggon boogies I think? But, was quite some years I rode that line. Your very lucky Stephen to live where all the railways began. Thank you, pleased to hear you've enjoyed it :-)

156485 must have been moved out the terminus platform and then into Plat 4 to head to Bishop Auckalnd

Well, I'm not too sure what it did. Maybe for a later service along the Tees Valley Line perhaps? But we don't know.

Just got to say that Darlington is in County Durham and not North Yorkshire. Northallerton is the last station in North Yorkshire.

Ah, I had no idea. Not sure why but assumed that Darlington was North Yorkshire. Well, learnt something new today. Thanks for telling me this Wensley :-)
