Trains at Goring & Streatley 10/05/21 (inc. ex-LNER 91s to scrap)

This video shows the result of five hours of filming at Goring & Streatley station on the Great Western Mainline, on a windy Monday 10th May 2021. In the video, we see a wide variety of passenger and freight workings, alongside a movement of ex-LNER Class 91s being sent for scrap in Newport.
Due to the issues with GWR's Hitachi units, which meant that just three out of a fleet of 93 units that should have been in service this day were available, we see a large number of Class 387s operating additional high-speed shuttles between Didcot Parkway and London Paddington, an unusual sight at a station where most 387s normally stop. We also see a newly-built Class 769 unit on a series of mileage-accumulation runs.
A couple of apologies with the quality of this video; firstly, the sound quality was unfortunately compromised in places by a strong breeze and an incessant murder of crows nesting right next to the station; and secondly, the video appears to be a little shaky in places due to the camera's OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser) finally giving up the ghost with a new camera now overdue!

06:48 - DBC 66107 with the 10:48 Westbury Up Reception - Cricklewood aggregates working.
08:06 - GBRf 66726 with the 11:50 Southampton West Docks - East Midlands Gateway intermodal working.
08:43 - ROG 57305 is seen hauling ex-LNER Class 91s (91129/113/126/102) to the scrapyard, working as the 07:45 Belmont Down Yard - Newport Docks (Sims Group)
09:11 - GBRf 66778 with the 11:32 Acton Yard - Portbury Auto Terminal aggregates working.
09:34 - Freightliner 70016 with the empty 10:50 Lawley Street - Southampton MCT intermodal working.
10:18 - Freightliner 70017 with the 13:01 Southampton MCT - Trafford Park FLT intermodal working.
11:25 - DBC 66018 is sadly bowled out by a departing GWR service, whilst working the 09:15 Trafford Park Euroterminal - Southampton West Docks intermodal working.
12:33 - GBRf 66792 conveys a pair of barrier coaches, working as the 09:48 Doncaster West Yard - Eastleigh East Yard move.
13:01 - Colas 70805 with the 13:27 Eastleigh East Yard - Hinksey sidings engineers working.

I don't like seeing them class 91s going to Newport, but I'm told its progress if you want a modern railway, thanks for filming this move Andrew, and am I right it looked like they were on the fast. Cheers Mike

Thanks for watching Mike. It's a shame to see their final journey but like you said, progress marches onwards. Yep, they were on the fast line all the way from Acton to beyond Didcot, most likely due to the lack of GWR intercity services getting in the way. Cheers, Andrew.

TBH, they didn't need to scrap these 91's, as there was still a use for them. They should have exported them to Germany and/or Austria.

I agree that the 91s could've been used elsewhere, although I think these ones had been stored for a while so weren't in the best condition.

Sure that they were going for scrap? To the scrapyard maybe but I strongly doubt that they'll want to cut up any more 91s just at the moment...

These four 91s have already been stripped of any reusable components internally, in order to provide spare parts to keep the rest of the fleet running, so would be difficult to return to service. Therefore, they are likely to be cut up in a matter of days as Sims Newport doesn't hang around when it comes to scrapping trains!
