Hello Everyone! I apologise for the poor train variety in this video and the shaky camera work in some clips. There was a lot of wind during Storm Francis and this, unfortunately, shows in the video footage. Norwich used to be a fantastic station for variety and is now the overwhelming home of the Stadler Flirt. Be sure to LIKE the video if you enjoy 😀

@@StarlifeStudios unfortunately, compared to the 1980’s etc, there really is no variety anymore. Passenger workings are 98% multiple units now, hardly any loco-hauled services left (Some Chiltern and Trans-Pennine use 68’s, but thats about it really) - When we had mainly loco hauled passenger services it was great because you never quite knew what you would get e.g. A Glasgow-Penzance train via the WCML would swap from Electric to Diesel at Birmingham New Street. Normally a service like that would be booked a class 50 from Birmingham, so immediately there was 50 different loco’s it could be. However, frequently a class 45 or 47 would fill in (No class 50 available) or occasionally something way more bizarre like a 37 or a pair of 31’s 😂 it was far more random and exciting back then. You could go to Inverness and see a Cardiff based loco there. Alternatively, it was no shock to see an Inverness based loco turn up in Cardiff 😎👍🏽🎉🎉
@StarlifeStudios4 жыл бұрын
@@ejc7129 I think that’s a really good point and you could argue that the multiple units have enabled the railways to save money. I think you’d also notice those locos more at interchanges like Birmingham New Street. I wasn’t around when those locos were as random as you say but one of my earliest memories was a 47/mk2s to Manchester Piccadilly and it was awesome 😃
@ejc71294 жыл бұрын
@@StarlifeStudios yep it really was great fun back then 😎 other major loco swapping places back in the day for major XC routes were Reading, Bristol Temple Meads, Wolverhampton, York, Coventry and Plymouth, occasionally Crewe or Preston. e.g. A Penzance to Newcastle service may be worked by the same loco throughout or swaps at Bristol TM and New Street were not uncommon, so you could have 3 different loco’s on your train for that journey. Some South West to the North West and Glasgow were booked for loco swaps at Wolverhampton or Crewe, instead of New Street, while some Poole/Bournemouth to Manchester/Glasgow services swapped from diesel to electric at Coventry instead of New Street, depending on where the service was booked for the swap, they were all different. In 1984 I rode on a Summer Saturday Paignton to Glasgow behind peak locomotive 45038..it worked the service all the way from Paignton to Crewe (under the wires from Birmingham) before it was swapped at Crewe for an Electric loco 😎👍🏽🎉

I know there's a few "no variety" posts here now and that's understandable due to the trains GA were using, but you have to understand that like some other areas of the country (Wales for example) we here in GA-land had 2nd/3rd/4th hand stock which was getting seriously long in the tooth. In the past (looking at the crystal ball) the last new set we had here was D6700 (aka the first class 37) way back in Dec 1960. Before than, we also had the class 31 first, and even the Britannic stream locos before anyone else. There is a story why we here in Anglia haven't had anything better since then (blame Norwich Crown Point) but that's by-the-by. So, the plastic Flirts are a refreshing, if not rather hard-seated, change to whatever GA thought they had spare (153,156,170). Of course, it would be nice if they cleaned the bloody things on the outside once in a while! Also - the 90's are still around; they're now a rather OTT orange colour pulling for Freightliner. And the 86's they replaced aren't being scrapped; they're being stored & refreshed...

Hi M3lgar, the Stadler Flirts are very nice trains and are certainly worthy replacements for most UK train routes. Flirts are currently planned in Wales and I would not be surprised if other train operators also introduce them in the future. Trinity Railway Express (TEX) Rail also operate a variant of them in Texas, US .

@StarlifeStudios4 жыл бұрын
@@transportguy1k635 Hello, Optical Zoom is the physical lens movement (better quality). Digital Zoom is where the camera software zooms in on the image to imitate additional zoom. My camera has 20x Optical and 12x Digital combining for 32x Zoom although the software is sooooo good that you wouldn't even notice it! Good Question by the way :D
