Trains at Nunawading - Metro Trains Melbourne

In this video we visit Nunawading, a station on the Belgrave & Lilydale Lines in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. Here we see some Metro X’trapolis trains arriving and departing the station, including at the platforms but also at some nearby trackside spots. We also see steam locomotives K153 & K190 as Steamrail Victoria were operating steam shuttles between Ringwood and Camberwell on the day of visiting.
Nunawading station opened on the 4th June 1888 as an infill station; built around six years after the line was built to Lilydale. At the time of opening the station was named Tunstall as the suburb was named after the town of Tunstall in England which is famous for its potteries. The station’s name was changed on the 1st November 1945 when the suburb was renamed from Tunstall to Nunawading; an Indigenous word meaning ceremonial ground or battlefield.
The old at-grade station closed on the 18th December 2009 as part of a grade separation to remove the Springvale Road level crossing. The new below-ground station opened on the 11th January 2010 and I must say; I really do like this station. Despite being nearly 15 years old now the station still looks great with its floating roof structure & skylights at concourse level and use of premium looking materials such as wood, glass, and blue wall panels. It’s a functional station too; unlike many station it has two concourses on either side of Springvale Road, each with stairs and a lift connected by a pedestrian underpass. Not only does it allow for easy pedestrian access from the surrounding areas but it also provides easy transfers between trains and the 902 Smartbus on Springvale Road.
For these reasons among others I consider Nunawading to be among one of my favourite train stations in Melbourne.

Alex, I remember in your old MSTS Series: Comeng 517M: I can't believe they haven't withdrawn all the B and S Classes. B80: The S Classes are on their way out but some of us B Classes are getting overhauled. Based on this, the series takes place during the mid-1980s as that was the time a few B Classes were overhauled into A Classes.
