Trains at: Selhurst - 17 May, 2022

A return visit to this location to observe operations now that the 455/8s have been retired. My main observation is that many of the former 455 diagrams are now covered by a single 5 car 377, but some are still 8 cars being either 4+4 or 3+5.

I will be so, so, so excited to see it's further grade separation and rationalization if they can ever get around to it ! WOWWW ! My second favourite set of flying junctions is Harold Interlocking on the Long Island Railroad just east of Long Island City, Queens, New York City. Hi Aarre. I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't heard from you in a while. Hope you are well. I've never explored the LIRR except on Google Earth so I'm not familiar with it. I have explored the L in Chicago. It is quite something.

1:05 Why is the London Bridge doing a circuitous route to the depot ? Why not straightline it through Forest Hill and Norwood Junction ?? Aarre Peltomaa-

Probably availability of paths. The direct route via New Cross Gate is quite busy and the train would have to cross all the running lines to get into the depot. Coming round this way avoids conflicting moves with other traffic.

@@BoogiesTrains Got'ya. I forgot that the Southern would have to come 'down' on the east side of the tracks at Bermondsey Flyunder. Good point. I forgot about that ! Aarre Peltomaa😀

As it’s still a bottleneck. Do you think that Network Rail will improve Selhurst junction with new underpasses and flyovers and East Croydon been given a massive upgrade to cope with more extra trains. And I noticed that there’s no Southern Class 455s anymore. Just Southern Class 377s, Thameslink Class 700 and Gatwick Express Class 387/2.

I doubt that there will be any money available for the Croydon upgrade. With changing travel patterns the assumptions built into the current proposals are no longer valid.
