Trains at: South Croydon -13 July, 2020

A short visit to this location whilst out cycling. I last visited in July 2017. In theory, not much has changed since then, except that services are running to a special Covid 19 timetable. The number of trains is near normal but the service and calling patterns are different. Most off peak trains are running with more carriages to allow social distancing on board by the very small number of passengers who are travelling

Platform 5 at East Croydon was temporary being used to terminate the 2Kxx service from London Victoria to West Croydon via Crystal Palace due a track defect at Gloucester Road Junction.

Platform 4 occasionally gets the peak hour terminating trains (30 minutes) from London Bridge

Basingstoke is on my list for after the 769s are in service. Not sure how photogenic the other two are. Luton might be worth a visit when the new airport shuttle is in service.

I see you're down in my haunts now. My mother in law lives nearby so I tend to come to this footbridge when visiting. Glad you got four trains in-a row; I 've never achieved five yet! And as someone mentioned, Reigate trains are always 4-car due to the platform length there.

I cycled as far as Sanderstead station a few weeks ago and then discovered that all the routes back to Bromley involved a big hill. Ordered the e-bike that I had been thinking about that evening. Think my range has gone up from about 20 miles round trip to at least 50. Just need to work out where I want to go. Might even risk taking the bike on the train.

Sorry this is late, only just found it luckily because it is very good and informative! Perhaps you could answer me this, the carriages look very short, are they like half the length of 'normal' other regions express stock?

I was a long way from the trains so was using a lot of zoom. That tends to make things coming towards you look a lot shorter than they really are. I think the Elecrostars and Thameslink units are both about 20m per car. 171s are 23m. 800s are 26m which, I think, makes them the longest on the network.

I also meant to say, there is no such thing as late. I hope people will be watching, enjoying and commenting on my videos for many years. What we take for granted now soon becomes interesting history.

Could Southern replace the Class 455s used on the suburban services (including Caterham, Tattenham Corner, Epsom Downs and London Bridge-London Victoria via Peckham Rye) and the Class 313s on the East Coastway Line (including Seaford branch) and West Coastway Line (including Bognor Regis & Littlehampton branch lines). If they were to inherit the Class 458s from South Western Railway as they have ordered the Class 701 Aventras. And I think East Midlands Railway are having some of the Class 171s and converted back to Class 170. But is Southern keeping some of the Class 171s for the Uckfield Line and Marshlink Line services.

The Wikipedia article about the 171s has details of the intended moved. As far as I am aware there is no information on what will replace them on Southern.
