In this video we visit the new Narre Warren station on the Pakenham Line in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs. Narre Warren station was completely rebuilt as part of a grade separation project to remove the Webb Street level crossing. The old station closed on the 24th November 2023 with the crossing officially removed in December 2023. The new station opened on the 28th March 2024. The removal of the Webb Street level crossing is the 14th to take place along the Pakenham Line, and the 74th removed overall since the level crossing removal project began in 2016.
We see some trains at the station three days after opening. We see mostly see High Capacity Metro Trains' (HCMT's) but we also see a couple of V/Line Vlocity DMU's on Gippsland Line services. I mostly filmed on platform 2 on the sunny side but there's also a handful of clips on platform 1.
At the time of opening the platforms, the ticket office, and one set of lifts to the platforms were complete. The waiting room, toilets, the second set of lifts, and the exterior of the station including landscaping and the car park will be completed by mid-2024. Overall my first impressions of Narre Warren station are generally pretty good. I think it's a functional design and it will have all the bells and whilstles of a premium station (ticket office, waiting room, toilets) with good weather coverage on the staircase and platforms. I definitely think it's an improvement over the previous ground-level station.
