Trains at Wigan NW - 31st March 2012

On what turned out to be "one of those days" we take a look at quite a few movments through Wigan North Western station on Saturday 31st March 2012.
There were 3 railtours booked to run through Wigan North Western and Wigan Wallgate (the adjacent station), all 3 have been captured at least once... Aside from the railtours we have the usual Saturday freight workings, the Tesco, Coal and Intermodal but no flasks. There were one or two light engines as consolation prizes but these were not quite the same as the two unscheduled movments which I failed to film. And how fitting that my 92nd upload should have a Class 92 in it...
The Following Railtours were captured;

86259 - Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express*

57009/66434 - Southbound Light Engine
66424 - 4S49 Daventry - Grangemouth
67029/005 - 1Z81 Southport - Stevenage
66??? - 6M11 Killoch - Fiddlers Ferry
57311 - Northbound Light Engine
87259 - 1Z87 Carlisle - Euston
57601/001 - 1Z44 Cardiff - Carnforth
* Yes I managed to ignore gut instinct and consequently got bowled when trying to record the early running northbound leg of this trip - still this was the first time in over a year that I have been bowled, damn Pendo 008...
For anyone interested the following locos also ran through Wigan today but were not captured;
70010 - Southbound loaded coal (some 12 hours late)
66039/66123/66078 - Northbound light engines
As usual best enjoyed in 1080 with the sound up.

The WCRC charter at the start and end of the video was a private charter (the guy who owns the company went for a day trip to Cardiff). The 86 was running to Preston where a steam train would take over, this runs every Saturday for around 3 months each year. The one with the 67s was a trip to Southport. It's never normally that busy.

Superb video mate, some great shots in there. Loved the shots of the Sandgrounder crawling through, it was flying when it passed me. If that's what you call "one of those days" you need your head testing :D

66554 was on 6M11 and 70010 was actually a bit early through Wigan on a 6Z63 Hunterston - Basford Hall loaded coal. Nice vid.

Cheers mate, I meant it was one of those days taking into account getting bowled on the northbound working of 86259 and then missing those two other workings - especially the 70. Still I bagged another new 92, the EWS silver 67 and got some nice tones from 57s so not a bad Saturday really ;)

nice vid :D i'm often in the Crewe/Acton Bridge area but rarely travel any further north because the freight can be quite temperamental... but fab freight vid... looks like you had a good day with the charters!

Aside from railtours and the odd special movement it's pretty much all the same stuff just in different liveries. A weekeday evening is best as it offers 86s & 92s as well as the 20 & 37s on the flasks.

I prefer Acton Bridge or south of Crewe myself, there is always more to see than at Wigan. Even Warrington offers more due to the coal workings from FFPS. Sometimes we do get a fair few charters run through, maybe twice a year when they all come on the same day.
