The Irish Mail headboard? If so, the origin of the tour was Holyhead.. Point of entry from Ireland.

@@trainsplanes I think the person was questioning why the Irish Mail headboard wasn't transferred between the locomotives. Royal Scot left without it.

Well, the Irish Mail ran from Holyhead to London Euston (and vv). Strictly speaking it ought to have come off at Crewe since the train was no longer en route to EUS. It certainly would not have been appropriate carrying it to Cardiff.
