Everyone talks about the scene with the baby and to be sure it's horrible. Shocking in a very visceral, punch-in-the-guts sense. But for me the real horror is in Tommy's arc. His story is the part of trainspotting I always remember when people mention the film and it genuinely makes me shudder to this day.

Tommy doesn’t die of Heroin, and he doesn’t take Heroin because of Renton, Sickboy, etc. Heroin had nothing to do with Tommy’s Arch except for moving the plot forward. He died of a worse, more sickening, and inhuman barbarity. Read the subtitles during his wake. Then, “Google” the disease and look at the pictures. (WARNING: Be prepared to see horrible, horrible stuff!) I like all your takes better. I hope this movie goes on to make people laugh, warn them about the dangers of drugs, and comments from all you nice people out there! Love all your comments! ✌🏻

@@ryanlrandall yeah he dies of an aids related illness and I do believe that mark and sickboy were to blame because they stole Tommy and his girlfriend’s porn tape. This action was the catalyst for the end of Tommy’s relationship that caused him to go into a deep depression and ask Mark for heroin in the first place that Heroin addiction is what caused him to contract aids which eventually leads to his death.

Watch the wake scene with the subtitles on. They tell you word for word what happened. He died a horrible death. But, I’m sure Heroin had a part in it too. It’s really not. I was a heroin addict for 12 years and you stop getting high when you’re properly addicted. You’re just doing it not to be sick and to feel normal. So them flopping on the floor after injection doesn’t happen when you’ve got a habit.

@@bungle3912 well, that depends. if you are in full withdrawal you will get an initial kick and high where you nod out for atleast a couple of minutes. I remember it was like that for me at least. And in the movie they were clean for a while before this scene so their tolerance was probably very low, which makes them nod out like this.

Its a darkly humourus scene that plays with what we see and what is being said. Rentons parents are watching the tv and his father is obviously saying "i knew he was going to do that" to the Tv, but right before that we see renton stealing money from them. So we as the viewer sees it play out almost as if renton stole the money right in front of them, and his father responds the way he does since they know he is an heroin addict and has probably done that before.

I have never been addicted to heroin, but I have been addicted to alcohol, cigarettes, marijuana, cocaine, psychedelics, pornography, sports betting, and some minor addictions like coffee and sugar. Addiction has been a big part of my life; for better or worse. I hit rock bottom at 23 and was able to stay five years 100% clean and sober. It is said easy, but it is not. Less in Mexico... Currently I consume discriminately and I have periods of addiction and detoxification. I comment on all of the above, because as an addict, this and other movies like Fear & Loathing in LV have always had a special place in my heart. Above all, I identify a lot with this film, because it accurately portrays addiction: the black humor, the addict's mentality, the addict's acts; everything is trustworthy. I came to steal from my own parents to consume, I swore and once again that it would be "my last hit", I came to surround myself with leeches who, more than being friends, were fellow drug addicts; drugs joined us for many years; we were constantly partying to techno and heavy metal concerts. Just as I have great memories, I have other truly terrible ones... All of the above, stemming from the fact that I think Trainspotting is a cornerstone of the '90s; cinema that defined a generation; timeless classics. And as an addict, the high is even more powerful!

This and the scene from pulp fiction when Travolta is driving high on smack to meet Mia really show the seductive allure of heroin... as an ex addict I couldn't watch those films for a long time.. I don't care what anyone says these films both came our at the height of heroin chic and they do glamourise it... heroin only works for a few months ihardxore junkies just take it to avoid the horror of withdrawals and they never look like Travolta or sick boy... any personality and charismatic charm you possess will gradually dissolve as you no longer invest into anything other than drugs.. I was a great musician and all my best work I composed before I fell into addiction.. don't believe the hype of velvet underground etc I would recommend a film called Christianne F it's an excellent film and really gets across tge reality of the junkie life.. That fear is why I wake up screaming at night! I look similar to Renton, and one drunk night, I had my friend shave my long hair almost to the scalp Army Style just to "Rock the Renton Look". I woke up for work and realized what I did. But when I ran to the mirror, I liked the change. When I got to work, I was mobbed all day by the girls. I still shave my head like in the Army every 3 months.

The Closed Captioning at the time marker, 2:21, will always be, "It's the ultimate hit n' dat. Better than sex!" I moved the Text Box so it's exact. This will forever be known as the "Days of Dennis" Effect and will purposely be added to any duplications I make, if any, of Trainspotting. 221 is now equal to 187, 420, or 411. Peace.

The Blu-ray I got from Netflix was compiled weird. It would only show the Director's Commentary as audio and CC. I had to be creative to get this 1:1 copy with Dolby 6 Channel audio. I was never able to access the movie's CC text file. So I had to write the CC all by hand. I want to show every fan what is going on. Some lines, I couldn't get. But... I found a way to get the CC from the Blu-ray today. No text file, but they can be permanently printed on the clip. I updated all the CC to exactly what the Blu-ray says. Some changes are on purpose from people in the comments. I want them to also be interactive, funny, and fun. Check out the drug list at the end 3:32.

***FOR ALL YOU FANS*** I personally rewrote all the Closed Captioning for this clip. The others were Shite! Now, you can see exactly what is said. FYI: Looking up the correct spelling of the list of drugs at the end took forever. Thankfully, I was on speed. Renton rattles the names off too fast. But I got them all, except for one. Enjoy!
