Where Fallen Flags Thrive: Railfanning Griffith, Indiana

Time for an adventure to the Midwest! In this video, we head to one of Northwest Indiana's railfanning hotspots. It's a crossroads town called Griffith, where the CN Matteson Subdivision crosses the CN South Bend Subdivision. We see an amazing variety of locomotive models, and fallen flag paint schemes, something this southwestern railfan is not used to at all! Please rate and comment. Thanx! :-)

I was there yesterday and they had everything open and the tower as well which used to be on the other side of the tracks inside of the tower was nostalgic and yes good finds here but Griffith never disappoints

They absolutely are! And yeah, CN actually has a huge presence here in the States. They have a ton of trackage in the Chicago area, and even reach all the way down to New Orleans since they bought out the Illinois Central.

Yes sir! It was an amazing trip. I loved seeing trains in a part of the country that isn't desert brown. LOL! Lot's of flat land out there though, so the can move a lot with only a couple units. I know the C&O, Erie, EJ&E, and Grand Trunk went through this town, but what was the 5th railroad? That classic diamond in Griffith must’ve had controllers sweating up a storm. Awesome footage!

Thank you for watching! The fifth railroad would have been the New York Central, later Pen Central. What I would pay to be able to go back in time and see this place in the 70s and early 80s! Imagine the sound of trains hitting all those diamonds. Must have been quite something.
