What a beautiful steam engine! Here in the UK, ours are much smaller, and as far as I know none of ours actually burn oil as a source of fuel. However, due to the ever-growing scarcity of coal, a steam engine in North Yorkshire which is being overhauled is going to be converted to run on oil, which ties in well with the fact she was built for the war effort.

Best I can figure the thing is doing about 60 mph. Just guesstimating that the wheels are about 7 ft tall and turning about 20 revolutions per 10 seconds. But I'm not sure. Does anybody know exactly how fast that thing is going?

I like the Chargers more, although they unfortunately have had problems running at times on different routes. Something that would be wonderful to see for passenger trains with Tier 4 locomotives would be if any Genesis locomotives were converted to a special Tier 4 variant that GE had never made before. The MP36PH locomotives that are used for Caltrain, MARC and Metrolink should also be converted to some Tier 4 variant for use on Amtrak's California sponsored trains when those commuter train agencies are ready to replace them. In addition, I think it's also time for Amtrak to get something built by Alstom that is Tier 4 compliant, something based on the Traxx locomotives in Europe. On the other hand though, it would be nice to DMU's that are Tier 4 compliant for both Amtrak trains, especially for their services in California, the Midwest and Washington which would even be useful for more trains on the timetable, and services with additional coaches.

So this was originally a steam engine then converted to a early diesel engine or is it replaced the coal and burns waste oil like a steam jenny pressure washer and still runs a boiler is it just the fire box thants different and the coal car now a huge oil tank 🤔 i love older trains but love old trucks and construction equipment too

It's still very much a steam engine. The oil that is burned is used to generate heat to boil the water to make the steam. They basically replaced the coal scoop with an oil atomizer. The same thing that was done a little less than a decade ago to the Union Pacific Big Boy.

Yeah, Stockton has gotten to be pretty bad. Probably the nastiest place I've seen which is a shame considering I've been told it used to be a beautiful city not that long ago.

So Stockton is actually a really bad town. Crime in broad daylight, drugs and homeless everywhere, and trash all over the place. That being said, I'd recomend NOT going by yourself. Go with at least a couple other people, and just to be safe, make sure somebody in the group has a pocket knife or something along those lines. Oh, and don't talk to the locals. There were six of us when we went with one in the group packing. Not trying to be a downer but it is seriously a place where you need to be careful. If you do go with friends, as long as y'all keep to yourselves, you'll be fine.
