Just in case you wondered, the locals pronounce "Portsmouth" as "Portsmuff". Since the infrastructure on the Island Line was upgraded in 2021, and a new passing loop installed at Brading, the train service hasn't become more frequent. There are still two trains per hour between Shanklin and Ryde Esplanade but they run at even intervals. With a passing loop at Sandown it was possible to run three trains per hour at twenty minute intervals between Ryde and Shanklin, but there were never enough passengers to justify this so only two trains were used, resulting in a gap of 40 minutes in the timetable.

Have been on Isle of Wight twice, 1st time in the 70th. At that time it was those old wagons from London Underground and no steam traffic. 1st time was with the old ferry with a captain that has beard, 2nd time with the newer boat and younger crews.
