TRAINZ TRS2019 two performance tips for your simulator

In this video I am presenting a Trainz Tutorial on how to implement two performance tips for your simulator with a dramatic increase in graphics quality and frame rates.
These two simple tools can help you work faster and more efficient when developing your own TRS2019 routes, or enhancing other routes you may have.

When I first got T:ANE I spent a little while just trying to get the graphics to a nice setting that work for almost all routes. I don't have a PC powerhouse like you Colin, but I still have something modern enough to be considered above average. I used these tips and put them into my game, and after playing around for about 15 minutes or so, I definitely see an increase in my fps. Thank you for the tips, and I can't wait to see more from you! My Specs: Ryzen 5 1600X (CPU) 16Gb Memory (RAM) MSI GTX 1060 6Gb (GPU) Trainz Settings In-Game: Draw Distance: 4000m Process Objects Behind Camera: On Scenery Detail: High Tree Detail: High Post Processing: High Performance Tab: Everything is on max besides Water Quality and Shadow Quality, those are on high instead of Ultra. I would get about 37-45 frames continuously, even when running at high speeds. Now, I get about 40-50 frames when running at high speeds. I tested this on the C&O Hinton Division route as that is the one I get the least frames on out of all of my routes. Hope this helps anyone with a setup close to mine.

Very nice, didn't really increase mine any more than maybe 10 fps. Its amazing that a train simulator can kill my system more than Xplane 11 with mods to increase visuals.

Thanks a lot, Colin! This is a very informative and useful video. I think its about time for me to decide how to upgrade the spec of my PC before switching to Trainz 2019. I may upgrade the CPU from i5 to i7, 32G Ram should be enough for me, replace my GTX970 with the most updated graphics card and some HDs. I love the computer I am using, it's like a 4-6-2, time for me to get a 4-8-4! :-)

I agree upgrade to the best i7 CPU that you can justify . . . . . . . . . . . and yes 32gb RAM would be excellent . . . . . . . . . . . for the graphics I recommend stay with a 1080ti as the new 2080 cards are just too expensive given the performance is only about 25% better performance in ideal circumstances . . . . . . . . . with a price almost 50% above a good 1080ti . . . . . . . . . . . and TRS2019 is not that demanding that a 2080 would provide much benefit . . . . . . . . . . .. whereas a SSD drive can give excellent gains for little money . . . hope that helps.

Hey, starting to get into the game again and was tweaking the performance settings. I seem to be missing Detail update rate, Use multiple render threads, and Use texture streaming on the performance tab. My game build is 117026. Do you still have these settings available on that version?

Hello. I own Trainz 2019 and although I have tried all of these performance tips, I am only able to get a maximum of 30fps on my game if there isn't any "graphically intense" assets or textures on my route. Here are my PC specs: -Intel i5-7500 3.4CHz Quad Core Processor -Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8 GB) DDR4-2133 CL13 Ram -Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hard Drive (I have two of these installed) -Sandisk SSD Plus 1TB 2.5" SSD (This drive is used as Drive C on my PC) -EVGA GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB SC Gaming ACX 2.0 Graphics Card As for the games performance settings I have the exact same that are set on this video onto my game - with the exception of the shadow quality as whenever I set it to ultra, the FPS drops considerably. I also have vertical sync to Full. I should also mention that I have my game installed on my HDD instead of my SSD. I originally had it installed on the SSD drive, however all of my games that I have installed on my PC took up a considerable amount of space on my drive. As a result, I had to move TRS2019 to one of my two HDD's. I'm only mentioning this because when I had the game installed on my SSD for a brief period, I noticed the performance of the game slightly improved (with the same in-game performance settings that I have set). With all of these listed out, I'm not sure what the main problem is with my PC not being able to run TRS2019 no more than 30fps. Do I need to upgrade any of my components to make TRS2019 run better, change the performance settings, or just move my game to a different drive?

30fps is not bad for this game. I think there is a method to get the correct FPS reading but not sure what it is. I suggest you research the N3V forums for better idea on best settings and how to get an accurate FPS reading. , you should not have anything set to Ultra with your config, reduce the highest setting back one setting, and check performance of the images, until you get an image that is not satisfactory to you. Then reset the last change back one up. Your specs will not allow you to get very high performance from the TRS2019 engine, but overall is well balanced. Rely on guidance from the TRAINZ forums. Hope that helps.

My graphics settings in the TRS2019 interface does not provide any 60hz option on ANY resolution (I have a 4k monitor). Any help on how to fix that?

You are correct, the graphics engine is built by N3V themselves, and is not particularly up to date, 4K monitors should work but it does not have screen setup to specify that, and 4K is not supported I believe. You can open it a s windowed game, and enlarge it on 4K monitor for reasonable result but and depending on minitor will default to 60Hz, but FPS may be poor !.

simplest view . . . If you have a top CPU and a poor graphics card you will not get good gaming, the graphics card is the main criteria and any recent cpu from the last few years should get you going, you may have to adjust settings back a bit if you get a CPU bottleneck but at least you should still get reasonable game play, hope that helps.

As I am not familiar with the Nitro laptops, I can only suggest be conservative with your settings rather than too ambitious, then measure FPS and get it to at least 30 fps for reasonable performance. Regards Colin R

Question: how to place trains in TRS2019, I'm new and can't figure it out

In simple steps . . . 1. Start the game using icon and first screen 2. Locate the route you want to put tartins into 3. Once the route is shown, don't open it but select Sessions far right end of bottom menu 4. Open a session of the route if more than one 5. Edit session 6. Using the small menu on far top right of surveyor the bottom selection will get you a list of rolling stock and other train items, these can be placed on any track . Then you have them on rails and can save the session. 7. go back to route selection step 2 but when you get to step 5, instead of edit select run. From there you are on your own, good luck Hope this helps, if not find the manual (or download it) and read that

Hello, Your specifications are on the lowest limit so you need to turn down some of your settings to get it working. If you have done so and it is terrible, this indicates your PC is not up to the task. Perhaps upgrade the graphics card . . not a new one but something a step or two better and second hand. Other than that suggestion, I cannot expand as i have no details of your system from your description. Hope that helps
