A short tour of Nicopolis ad Istrum - not far from Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria - a city founded to commemorate Trajan's victories in the Dacian Wars. Check out my other channels, @toldinstone and @toldinstonefootnotes

I really enjoy these miniature tours of the many places the Romans occupied outside of western Europe.

Goddammit, Nicopolis ad Istrum is just 3 hours drive from me, and I've had it pinned for a visit for a long time. And here comes Ryan all the way from the US and makes a whole video about it, before I've gotten my stuff together and visited it 😅 Love the videos from the region, you've given me plenty of new ideas for sites to visit. And I really hope even more archeology is unearthed by the time I get there eventually.

Wonderful video! I am from Bulgaria but never visited this remarkable city - it is on my to do list. So thank you very much for this teaser! Apart from that - I have a beautiful coin struck in Nicopolis with Septimius Severus! A true treasure!❤

I am English and live nearby, and have visited Nikopolis more than once. Go there and take your family, take a picnic and have a great day.

How small is the world... today I visited Italica (Spain), where Trajan (and maybe Hadrian too) was born. It's located near Sevilla and has a nice amphitheatre that is in reasonable shape and a lot of large houses, with great mosaics, but not much else left. And now this video about another city of Trajan

Could i add a suggestion for your videos? Some images of what the structures, cities, or moments looked like in their prime would be amazing to help get a sense of the atmosphere

Hey Garrett, any idea how much those larger stones, that are used for the street, weigh?
