In the city of Görlitz, which is located in the far east of Saxony, a horse-drawn standard gauge tram was opened in 1882, followed by the electrification and reconstruction in meter-gauge in 1897. Since the districts east of the river Lausitzer Neiße were ceded to Poland after the Second World War, the trams run exclusively in the western half of the city.
Until today, the roling stock consists entirely of Tatra KT4D trams, some of which were taken over from Erfurt and Cottbus. On workdays, double-sets can be found on line 1. The delivery of eight new low-floor trams is expected to start in 2024.
