Great video Ralph ...had similar problem Saturday on a package unit.Wired Straight to board ...ran fine ..end up having to replace wiring !!!

We are going to replace the wire on this one if it shorts again. The wire was just to high up to get to.

It maybe up there Rob, I'll never know. I told them that if it blows another fuse they'll be getting another wire. It will be as much work to find the short as it would be run a new wire

What could be the main issue my heat pump keeps blowing a fuse in my indoor fused disconnect box next to my breaker box? It usually blows on of the frn-r-40 fuses when I out my heat on and it is sub 40 degrees outside. It is a Trane unit about 17 years old. My condo is less than 1000 square feet

It's a process of elimination, sometimes it's easier to just ohm all the wires verses doing it the way I did it.

I would put orange phase tape on the green wire , at each end . Hopefully that would save confusion the next time some one ( maybe you ? ) have to work on that unit . Thanks , Wyr God bless

Thanks for the video T&N Services LLC. I too use that method to save on fuses. Recently came across a thermostat wire in a commercial setting that had a staple in it for years. Issue was that some one moved it and it was grounded on a florescent light fixture. Amp clamp saved many transformers and fuses. Btw which gloves are those.

You can't beat a meter it's the only way to find a short unless you just get lucky and just see it. I've seen shorts in all kinda different places, we are going to run a new wire if it happens again instead of trying to find it. Those gloves are branded grease monkey I get them from Home Depot.

He is using the orange from the tstat and then using green from air handler to outside orange

Hey Ralph! Great video, I really thought once you removed the solenoid from the circuit that it was gonna quit pulling the high amp draw... Wow! Since you ended up swapping the orange for green, do you think that possibly where all the wire nuts were up on top that maybe the Orange got over tightened and broke and was having a loose connection causing the excessive amp draw? Or maybe as the wires exited the building maybe they scratched up against the metal? Anyways good thing is now its working! As I like to say... "Another satisfied customer!" Haha

Hey Jim, long time no see. This is the supply house that I go to all the time. I tried to follow the low voltage wire to see if I could see anything, but it run along the roof line of the building. So there's no telling where the short is. I'm hoping it's only in the orange wire. I told them if it shorts again someone will be running a new wire. So now instead of me owing the supply house money they owe me.

I like it, if I was working on stuff that really need more precise measurement I'd invest in a fluke, but for what we are doing it works very good. I'd buy another one
