The electrical short revealed in the video is one that some HVAC techs have trouble locating. It requires one tool, eyes. In worst case scenarios, we can use a megohmmeter to find these shorts, here is an older video using a Supco M500 • Carbon Tracking Example . Because they are at the top of the contactor or line side sometimes it's difficult to find, that's why the title, states "hidden electrical short". Every HVAC/R tech should be aware of this issue.

Glad to see you still doing commercial content! Got into commercial service a year ago and love it so much better than residential.

i first came across your channel when i was thinking of what trade to get into. I saw your video "How To Be A Successful HVAC Apprentice". I recently got my universal EPA and i'm about 50 hours away from completing my 900 hour course. I appreciate guys like you in this field. The fact that i can go home after class and watch videos like this to help me prepare for my 1st job in HVAC is a blessing. Keep up the great work

Carriers are notorious for this.

Great video! I’ve had the exact same issue on the same style carrier RTU. rain/snow melt was getting in on the top of the unit through screw holes. Would blow fuses very irregularly, everything wound ohm and megger out fine. I sealed up the screws with silicone and the panel with foam insulation tape. Replaced 3 contactors and control board No issues for about 2 years!

Loose connections as well will cause wires too get hot melt the wire and cause a short and blow a fuse

That's a 15yr old problem & Carrier makes a snow kit for the control compartment. 👌👍✌️

I will try to recreate the water infiltration by pouring water on the unit and find where it is penetrating to the electrical. Good video

I always hated carriers. Good money for a service tech. I used to blame phases being out of balance. Guess I was wrong.

I have a carrier heat pump for my house, it keeps blowing fuses, and capacitors, but not throwing any codes. I’ll look for bad connections, it’s about 10 yes old. Thanks for the insight.
